Journal ArticleDOI
The relevance of higher plants in lead compound discovery programs.
TL;DR: Progress made in the senior author's laboratory in research work on naturally occurring sweeteners and other taste-modifying substances and on potential anticancer agents from tropical plants will be described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Resorcylic Acid Lactones with Cytotoxic and NF-κB Inhibitory Activities and Their Structure–Activity Relationships
Sloan Ayers,Tyler N. Graf,Audrey F. Adcock,David J. Kroll,Susan Matthew,Esperanza J. Carcache de Blanco,Qi Shen,Steven M. Swanson,Mansukh C. Wani,Cedric J. Pearce,Nicholas H. Oberlies +10 more
TL;DR: In the latter assay, compounds 1 and 5 displayed sub-micromolar activities that were on par with the positive control, and as such, these compounds may serve as a lead scaffold for future medicinal chemistry studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bioactive Flavaglines and Other Constituents Isolated from Aglaia perviridis
Li Pan,Ulyana Muñoz Acuña,Jie Li,Nivedita Jena,Tran Ngoc Ninh,Caroline M. Pannell,Heebyung Chai,James R. Fuchs,Esperanza J. Carcache de Blanco,Djaja D. Soejarto,A. Douglas Kinghorn +10 more
TL;DR: Eight new compounds, including two cyclopenta[b]benzopyran derivatives (1, 2), two cycloartane triterpenoids (5-7), and an apocarotenoid (8), together with 16 known compounds, were isolated from the chloroform-soluble partitions of separate methanol extracts of a combination of the fruits, leaves, and twigs and of the roots of Aglaia perviridis collected in Vietnam.
Journal Article
NF-κB Inhibitors from Brucea javanica Exhibiting Intracellular Effects on Reactive Oxygen Species
TL;DR: Chrysoeriol selectively kills leukemic cells and potentiates the amplification of ROS levels and could serve as a potential chemotherapeutic modifier for leukemia chemotherapy since leukemia cells have a higher susceptibility to elevated ROS levels.
Journal ArticleDOI
Constituents of the Leaves and Stem Bark of Aglaia foveolata
Angela A. Salim,Heebyung Chai,Ismail Rachman,Soedarsono Riswan,Leonardus B.S. Kardono,Norman R. Farnsworth,Esperanza J. Carcache-Blanco,A. Douglas Kinghorn +7 more
TL;DR: Five new flavagline derivatives were isolated from the leaves of Aglaia foveolata collected in Indonesia and has an unprecedented cyclic amide moiety in its cyclopenta[b]benzopyran skeleton, while compound 6 is a novel benzo[ b]oxepine derivative in which the oxepine ring is cleaved.
