Prefrontal connectomics: from anatomy to human imaging.

TLDR
In this article, the anatomic cortical connections and pathways for each prefrontal cortex (PFC) region are outlined and a review of available MRI-based techniques for indirectly measuring structural and functional connectivity, and graph theoretical methods for analysis of hubs, modules and topologically integrative features of the connectome.

The role of prefrontal cortex in cognitive control and executive function.

TL;DR: In this paper, a psychometric approach shows unity and diversity in cognitive control constructs, with three components in the most commonly studied constructs: general or common CC and components specific to mental set shifting and working memory updating.

Controversy over the temporal cortical terminations of the left arcuate fasciculus: a reappraisal.

Davide Giampiccolo, +1 more
- 10 Feb 2022 -
TL;DR: Clinical data is examined showing that multimodal phonological encoding is facilitated by projections of the arcuate fasciculus to superior, but also middle, inferior and basal temporal regions, which points to a reappraisal of arcuate projections in the temporal lobe.

Prefrontal contributions to the stability and variability of thought and conscious experience.

TL;DR: The human prefrontal cortex is a structurally and functionally heterogenous brain region, including multiple subregions that have been linked to different large-scale brain networks as mentioned in this paper, which contributes to a broad range of mental phenomena, from goal-directed thought and executive functions to mind-wandering and psychedelic experience.

The Convergence Model of Brain Reward Circuitry: Implications for Relief of Treatment-Resistant Depression by Deep-Brain Stimulation of the Medial Forebrain Bundle

TL;DR: It is proposed that non-dopaminergic MFB components may contribute to the therapeutic effect in parallel to, in synergy with, or even instead of, a dopaminergic component.

Local and long-distance organization of prefrontal cortex circuits in the marmoset brain

TL;DR: For instance, Liu et al. as discussed by the authors performed high-resolution connectomic mapping of the marmoset PFC and found two contrasting corticocortical and corticostriatal projection patterns: patchy projections that formed many columns of submillimeter scale in nearby and distant regions and diffuse projections that spread widely across the cortex and striatum.

Collective dynamics of small-world networks

TL;DR: Simple models of networks that can be tuned through this middle ground: regular networks ‘rewired’ to introduce increasing amounts of disorder are explored, finding that these systems can be highly clustered, like regular lattices, yet have small characteristic path lengths, like random graphs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Statistical mechanics of complex networks

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple model based on the power-law degree distribution of real networks was proposed, which was able to reproduce the power law degree distribution in real networks and to capture the evolution of networks, not just their static topology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Control of goal-directed and stimulus-driven attention in the brain

TL;DR: Evidence for partially segregated networks of brain areas that carry out different attentional functions is reviewed, finding that one system is involved in preparing and applying goal-directed selection for stimuli and responses, and the other is specialized for the detection of behaviourally relevant stimuli.

Networks: An Introduction

Mark Newman
TL;DR: This book brings together for the first time the most important breakthroughs in each of these fields and presents them in a coherent fashion, highlighting the strong interconnections between work in different areas.

Modularity and community structure in networks

TL;DR: In this article, the modularity of a network is expressed in terms of the eigenvectors of a characteristic matrix for the network, which is then used for community detection.
