By making the optimum joint measurement on the light received from the target region together with the retained spontaneous parametric down-conversion idler beam, the quantum-illumination system realizes a 6 dB advantage in the error-probability exponent over the optimum reception coherent-state system.Abstract:
An optical transmitter irradiates a target region containing a bright thermal-noise bath in which a low-reflectivity object might be embedded. The light received from this region is used to decide whether the object is present or absent. The performance achieved using a coherent-state transmitter is compared with that of a quantum-illumination transmitter, i.e., one that employs the signal beam obtained from spontaneous parametric down-conversion. By making the optimum joint measurement on the light received from the target region together with the retained spontaneous parametric down-conversion idler beam, the quantum-illumination system realizes a 6 dB advantage in the error-probability exponent over the optimum reception coherent-state system. This advantage accrues despite there being no entanglement between the light collected from the target region and the retained idler beam.read more

Generalization in Quantum Machine Learning: a Quantum Information Perspective
TL;DR: In this article, a link between quantum machine learning classification and quantum hypothesis testing (state and channel discrimination) is established, and it is shown that the accuracy and generalization capability of quantum classifiers depend on the (Renyi) mutual informations between the quantum state space $Q$ and the classical parameter space $X$ or class space $C$.

Microwave quantum illumination with a digital phase-conjugated receiver
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the concept of quantum illumination at microwave frequencies, by generating entangled fields using a Josephson parametric converter which are then amplified to illuminate a room-temperature object at a distance of 1 meter.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the QI protocol for a generically correlated Gaussian source and study the phase-conjugating (PC) receiver, deriving the associated SNR in terms of the signal and idler energies, and their cross-correlations, which may be readily adapted to incorporate added noise due to Gaussian measurements.

Quantifying Memory Capacity as a Quantum Thermodynamic Resource
TL;DR: A formalism is devised to quantify the thermodynamic value of memory in general quantum systems with nontrivial energy landscapes and outlines an explicit memory-bath coupling that can approximate the optimal qubit thermal information capacity arbitrarily well.

New results about quantum scattering characteristics of typical targets
TL;DR: Quantum radar cross section is studied, which has an objective measure of the quantum scattering ability of a specified target, and the interaction process between quantum radar and the target is introduced, and new results about quantum scattering characteristics of typical targets are reported.
