Development of a hydrometallurgical process for the recovery of pure alumina from black dross and synthesis of magnesium spinel

TL;DR: In order to recover pure alumina and synthesize magnesium spinel from black dross, a hydrometallurgical process was developed in this article, which consisted of 1) NaOH leaching of the mechanically activated black residues, 2) removal of silicate(IV) from the leaching solution by adsorption followed by coagulation, 3) precipitation of aluminum hydroxide from the purified leaching solutions, 4) synthesis of magnesium spinels.

Use of polymers in alumina precipitation in the bayer process of bauxite beneficiation

TL;DR: In this article, the negative effects of sodium oxylate on the crystallization of aluminum trihydrate from Bayer process liquors were eliminated or curtailed by adding an effective amount of a polyacrylic acid with a molecular weight about 1,000,000 and containing at least 50 mole percent acrylic acid monomer to pregnant Bayer process liquid.
