Salinity induced behavioural changes in malate dehydrogenase and glutamate dehydrogenase activities in rice seedlings of differing salt tolerance.
TLDR
Results suggest varying behaviour of MDH and GDH in two sets of rice cultivar differing in salt tolerance and that inhibition in the activities of dehydrogenases in salt sensitive rice cultivars due to salinity may be one of the possible reasons for decreased growth of rice plants under saline conditions.About:

Abiotic stress generates ROS that signal expression of anionic glutamate dehydrogenases to form glutamate for proline synthesis in tobacco and grapevine.

TL;DR: The hypothesis that the salinity-generated ROS signal induces α-G DH subunit expression, and the anionic iso-GDHs assimilate ammonia, acting as antistress enzymes in ammonia detoxification and production of Glu for Pro synthesis, is supported.

TL;DR: An increase in the de novo synthesis of proline probably associated with the increase of the concentration of glutamate precursor in the soluble amino acid pool is suggested.

Tuning of Redox Regulatory Mechanisms, Reactive Oxygen Species and Redox Homeostasis under Salinity Stress.
TL;DR: This review focuses on the core response of plants to overcome the challenges of salinity stress through regulation of ROS generation and detoxification systems and to maintain redox homeostasis.

Expressed sequence tags from Thellungiella halophila, a new model to study plant salt-tolerance
Zenglan Wang,Pinghua Li,Mark Fredricksen,Zhizhong Gong,C.S Kim,Changquing Zhang,Hans J. Bohnert,Jian-Kang Zhu,Ray A. Bressan,Paul M. Hasegawa,Yanxiu Zhao,Hui Zhang +11 more
TL;DR: A NaCl-treated cDNA library of Thellungiella halophila that has many features similar to Arabidopsis can be adopted as a halophytic model for stress-tolerance research and is a relatively rapid and cheap way for discovering new genes related to salinity tolerance.

Physiological Mechanisms of Nitrogen Absorption and Assimilation in Plants Under Stressful Conditions
TL;DR: The availability of N in the soil is due to symbiotic and nonsymbiotic bacteria; mineralization of organic matter, manure, and animal waste products; or application of inorganic N fertilizers as discussed by the authors.

The mechanism of salt tolerance in halophytes
TL;DR: The objective was to establish an experimental procedure and show direct AFM measurements that unequivocally can be assigned as a mode of action for the conversion of NalK to Na6(SO4)(SO3) during the cycling process.

Dissecting the roles of osmolyte accumulation during stress
TL;DR: In re-assessing the functional significance of compatible solute accumulation, it is suggested that proline and glycine betaine synthesis may buffer cellular redox potential and contribute to stress-tolerant phenotypes observed.
