TLDR
In this article, the method of collocation is used to obtain dispersion curves for wave propagation in infinite rectangular bars, and the results are used to assess the accuracy of two recent approximate theories for waves in bars.

Study of vibrational modes of gold nanostructures by picosecond ultrasonics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used picosecond ultrasonics techniques to study the vibrations of several nanostructures composed of laterally patterned gold films on fused quartz substrates.

Wave reflection from the free end of a cylinder with an arbitrary cross-section

TL;DR: In this paper, the wave scattering at the free end of a cylinder due to an incident monochromatic wave is investigated, and the amplitude of the traveling waves and end modes that satisfy traction-free end conditions are determined by least squares minimization or by a virtual work method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Elastic guided waves in a layered plate with rectangular cross section.

TL;DR: A semianalytical finite element method in which the deformation of the cross section is modeled by two-dimensional finite elements and analytical representation of propagating waves along the length of the plate has been used to study guided waves in a layered elastic plate of rectangular cross section.
Journal ArticleDOI

Energy concentration at the center of large aspect ratio rectangular waveguides at high frequencies

TL;DR: Wave propagation in infinitely long strips of large rectangular aspect ratio is discussed and two guided wave modes of a large aspect ratio rectangular strip whose dispersion characteristics approach those of the fundamental modes of an infinitely wide plate at high frequencies are shown.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface wave modes in rails

TL;DR: In this article, the dispersion curves of the dominant surface wave modes were determined up to a frequency of 350kHz using a finite element model and show excellent agreement with experimental data, and one surface wave mode was identified to be nondispersive and not significantly affected by cross-section changes due to wear at frequencies above 180kHz.
