X-ray crystallographic determination of the structure of bovine lens leucine aminopeptidase complexed with amastatin: Formulation of a catalytic mechanism featuring a gem-diolate transition state

TL;DR: The structure of the complex of bovine lens leucine aminopeptidase (blLAP) with the slow-, tight-binding inhibitor amastatin has been determined by X-ray crystallography and a catalytic mechanism for blLAP is proposed based on the binding modes of amastsatin and bestatin and plausible binding modes on a dipeptide substrate and its putative gem-diolate transition state.

Vibrational approach to the dynamics of an α‐helix

TL;DR: In this article, the dynamics of a finite α-helix have been studied in the harmonic approximation by a vibrational analysis of the atomic motions about their equilibrium positions, and the system were represented by an empirical potential energy function, and all degrees of freedom (bond lengths, bond angles, and torsional angles) were allowed to vary.

The Guanidinium Group: Its Biological Role and Synthetic Analogs

TL;DR: This chapter outlines recent findings of guanidinium groups in natural systems and advances in synthetic receptors that incorporate guanidine functional group to mimic natural receptors and catalysts.

Dynamics Surrounding Cys-34 in Native, Chemically Denatured, and Silica-Adsorbed Bovine Serum Albumin

TL;DR: The steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence results demonstrate the presence of an excited-state reaction for the BSA-acrylodan system and demonstrate the complexity of the changes within a protein/biorecognition element that affect the signal from a single fluorescent reporter group.

Modification of Arginyl Residues in Porcine Carboxypeptidase B

TL;DR: Functional arginyl residues of porcine carboxypeptidase B were modified with phenylglyoxal, decreasing activity towards peptide substrates and the ester hippurylphenyllactate while enhancing activity towards the esters hippurylargininic acid.

Structure of papain.

TL;DR: A three-dimensional X-ray study at a resolution of 2.8 A has revealed that the single polypeptide chain of 211 residues is folded into two distinct parts which are divided by a cleft as mentioned in this paper.
