TLDR
The results suggest that 6'-OH----O-2 H-bonding is significant in the minimal-energy orientation of M, with phi = -36 degrees and psi = 51 degrees, and that two other glycosidic orientations may be important in the 2-O- or 6- O-substituted derivatives of M.

The capsule of the fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans

TL;DR: An update on the current knowledge of the C. neoformans capsule is provided, covering aspects related to its structure, synthesis and particularly, its role as a virulence factor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Polysaccharide antigens of the capsule of Cryptococcus neoformans.

TL;DR: An important consideration in the application of vaccine or immune modulation therapies in the treatment of cryptococcosis in AIDS victims would be the design of vaccines that could boost the T-1 immune response.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cas1p is a membrane protein necessary for the O-acetylation of the Cryptococcus neoformans capsular polysaccharide.

TL;DR: Analysis of the capsule structure after CAS1 deletion showed that it is required for GXM O‐acetylation, and protein analysis using the Propsearch software classified Cas1p as a putative glycosyltransferase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cryptococcus neoformans serotype A glucuronoxylomannan-protein conjugate vaccines: synthesis, characterization, and immunogenicity.

TL;DR: The conjugate vaccines prepared through hydroxyl activation of the GXM are sufficiently immunogenic and appear to be suitable for clinical evaluation.
Journal ArticleDOI

The physical properties of the capsular polysaccharides from Cryptococcus neoformans suggest features for capsule construction.

TL;DR: In this paper, a mechanism for capsule growth is proposed based on the extracellular release and entanglement of glucuronoxylomannan (GXM) molecules.

Colorimetric Method for Determination of Sugars and Related Substances

TL;DR: In this article, a method was developed to determine submicro amounts of sugars and related substances using a phenol-sulfuric acid reaction, which is useful for the determination of the composition of polysaccharides and their methyl derivatives.

New method for quantitative determination of uronic acids

TL;DR: A new method for determination of uronic acids with meta-hydroxydiphenyl is introduced, which is simpler, quicker, more sensitive, and more specific than other methods, and it needs lesser amounts of fluid.

Carbon-13 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of Monosaccharides

TL;DR: An overview of the 13 Carbon-Nuclear magnetic resonance (13 C-NMR) spectroscopy of monosaccharides can be found in this paper, where an almost complete collection of 13 C- NMR chemical shifts of polysaccharides, their methyl glycosides, and acetates is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Further Studies on the Assignment of Signals in 13C Magnetic Resonance Spectra of Aldoses and Derived Methyl Glycosides

TL;DR: The 13C signals of most of the more common sugars and their methyl glycosides have been assigned, based on the α-carbon and β-carbon effects that occur on deuterium substitution.

Carbon-13 Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of Polysaccharides

TL;DR: In this paper, the carbon-13 NMR spectra of polysaccharides with mixed linkages have been examined and a series of α-and β-shifts have been determined for mono-O -methylglucoses and mono- O -methylmannoses to aid in the assignments of 13 C signals of oligosaccharides and poly-scharides consisting of glucose and mannose respectively.
