TLDR
16S and 23S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes from campylobacteria were studied by polymerase chain reaction and DNA sequence analysis using universally conserved oligonucleotide primers and it was concluded that an insertion was found that was not present in the 16S rRNA genes of other Campylobacter species.

Polyphasic taxonomy, a consensus approach to bacterial systematics.

TL;DR: In this review, the practice of polyphasic taxonomy is discussed for four groups of bacteria chosen for their relevance, complexity, or both: the genera Xanthomonas and Campylobacter, the lactic acid bacteria, and the family Comamonadaceae.

Identification methods for campylobacters, helicobacters, and related organisms.

TL;DR: The purpose of this review is to summarize the problems associated with identifying campylobacteria, critically appraise the methods that have been used for this purpose, and discuss prospects for improvements in this field.

Taxonomy of Campylobacter, Arcobacter, Helicobacter and related bacteria: current status, future prospects and immediate concerns.

TL;DR: The purpose of this article is to review the major developments in the taxonomy of Campylobacter from its inception to the present day; summarize the most recent changes in the field; analyse current topical issues of special relevance to applied microbiologists, including identification of the bacteria; and speculate on future prospects for campylobacterial taxonomy.

Clostridium paradoxum DSM 7308T contains multiple 16S rRNA genes with heterogeneous intervening sequences.

TL;DR: The absence of IVSs in the mature rRNA was demonstrated by Northern hybridization and sequence analysis of the 16S rRNA reverse transcriptase (RT)-PCR product and hybridization of the restriction-enzyme-digested genomic DNA of C. paradoxum with probes derived from theIVSs demonstrated that the 16s rRNA genes containing different IVSS are located at different sites on the chromosome.

Specific PCR Identification and Differentiation of the Thermophilic Campylobacters, Campylobacter jejuni, C. coli, C. lari, and C. upsaliensis

TL;DR: By digestion of the PCR products with two restriction enzymes, species differentiation was demonstrated and the present method has the potential to be used for both detection and identification of thermophilic campylobacter species.

TL;DR: The neighbor-joining method and Sattath and Tversky's method are shown to be generally better than the other methods for reconstructing phylogenetic trees from evolutionary distance data.

Confidence limits on phylogenies: an approach using the bootstrap.

TL;DR: The recently‐developed statistical method known as the “bootstrap” can be used to place confidence intervals on phylogenies and shows significant evidence for a group if it is defined by three or more characters.

Isolation and direct complete nucleotide determination of entire genes. Characterization of a gene coding for 16S ribosomal RNA

TL;DR: Using a set of synthetic oligonucleotides homologous to broadly conserved sequences in-vitro amplification via the polymerase chain reaction followed by direct sequencing results in almost complete nucleotide determination of a gene coding for 16S ribosomal RNA.

Compilation of small ribosomal subunit RNA sequences

TL;DR: The set of 452 different sequences comprises all sequences that to the authors' knowledge had been published or were available from the sequence library file servers as of December 1, 1990, and that are either complete or cover a minimum of about 70% of the complete sequence.
