Testing gas dispersion modelling: A case study at La Soufrière volcano (Guadeloupe, Lesser Antilles)

TLDR
In this article, the authors developed a new probabilistic implementation of the Eulerian code DISGAS-2.0 for passive gas dispersion coupled with the mass-consistent Diagnostic Wind Model, using local wind measurements and atmospheric stability information from a local meteorological station and ERA5 reanalysis data.

Gas Monitoring of Volcanic-Hydrothermal Plumes in a Tropical Environment: The Case of La Soufrière de Guadeloupe Unrest Volcano (Lesser Antilles)

TL;DR: In this article , the authors report on new data for the chemical compositions (CO2, H2S, SO2) and fluxes of fumarolic gas emissions (97-104°C) from La Soufrière volcano in Guadeloupe (Lesser Antilles) obtained from both mobile MultiGas measurements and permanent MultiGas survey.

The Basse-Terre Island of Guadeloupe (Eastern Caribbean, France) and Its Volcanic-Hydrothermal Geodiversity: A Case Study of Challenges, Perspectives, and New Paradigms for Resilience and Sustainability on Volcanic Islands

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors use Guadeloupe as a representative of many small island developing states (SIDS), to show that the volcanic-hydrothermal geodiversity is a major resource and strategic thread for resilience and sustainability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessing hazard and potential impact associated with volcanic ballistic projectiles: The example of La Soufrière de Guadeloupe volcano (Lesser Antilles)

TL;DR: In this article , the authors proposed a probabilistic hazard quantification strategy to provide the probability of Volcanic Ballistic Projectiles (VBPs) to exceed some critical kinetic energy thresholds, considering a variability on the site of the eruptive vents and the effect of wind.
Journal ArticleDOI

Quantification of CO2 degassing and atmospheric dispersion at Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande (São Miguel Island, Azores)

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors investigated the passive gas dispersion in the atmosphere at Caldeiras da Ribeira Grande performing a model validation aimed to estimate the fumarolic gas flux at source and the potential hazard for human and animal lives posed by CO2.

NOAA’s HYSPLIT Atmospheric Transport and Dispersion Modeling System

TL;DR: The Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory model (HYSPLIT) as mentioned in this paper is one of the most widely used models for atmospheric trajectory and dispersion calculations.

Systems of conservation laws

TL;DR: In this article, a wide class of difference equations is described for approximating discontinuous time dependent solutions, with prescribed initial data, of hyperbolic systems of nonlinear conservation laws, and the best ones are determined, i.e., those which have the smallest truncation error and in which the discontinuities are confined to a narrow band of 2-3 meshpoints.

The encyclopedia of volcanoes

TL;DR: The Encyclopedia of Volcanoes summarizes our present knowledge of volcanoes and provides a comprehensive source of information on the causes of volcanic eruptions and both the destructive and beneficial effects as discussed by the authors.

A time‐averaged inventory of subaerial volcanic sulfur emissions

TL;DR: A time-averaged inventory of subaerial volcanic sulfur (S) emissions was compiled primarily for the use of global S and sulfate modelers as discussed by the authors, which relies upon the 25-year history of S, primarily sulfur dioxide (SO2), measurements at volcanoes.

Air Quality Guidelines for Europe

TL;DR: The WHO Regional Office for Europe (EURO) has carried out a three-year project to establish air quality guidelines for 28 air pollutants of special environmental and health importance for countries of the European Region as mentioned in this paper.
