Electrophysiological studies on the axon pathways of specified nerve cells in the central ganglia of two insect species, Periplaneta americana and Schistocerca gregaria

TL;DR: Using electrophysiological stimulating and recording techniques, the axon distribution of a group of electrically excitable nerve cell bodies has been examined, which are situated on the dorsal surface of cockroach and locust metathoracic ganglia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ionic Mechanism of Postsynaptic Inhibition

TL;DR: It might appear that the synaptic cleft is merely a barrier to transmission; but the authors shall see later that it must not be too narrow else it will unduly impede the flow of the postsynaptic electric currents that provide the essential expression of synaptic actions of all kinds.
Journal ArticleDOI

Uneven distribution of k+ channels in soma, axon and dendrites of rat spinal neurones: functional role of the soma in generation of action potentials

TL;DR: It is concluded that the soma plays a complex role in the excitability of spinal dorsal horn neurones and conducts passively or amplifies excitatory postsynaptic potentials on their way from dendrites and soma to the axon initial segment but it inhibits back‐propagation of the action potential from theAxon to the dendrite.
Book ChapterDOI

Electrophysiological Pharmacology of Mesencephalic Dopaminergic Neurons

TL;DR: This chapter is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Stephen J. Young, mentor, colleague and friend who contributed tirelessly and selflessly to the advancement of the science of countless students, colleagues and scientists around the world.

A quantitative description of membrane current and its application to conduction and excitation in nerve

TL;DR: This article concludes a series of papers concerned with the flow of electric current through the surface membrane of a giant nerve fibre by putting them into mathematical form and showing that they will account for conduction and excitation in quantitative terms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of discharge of motoneurons upon excitation of neighboring motoneurons

TL;DR: The present experiments show that the antidromic activation of certain groups of motoneurons does condition the reflex discharges of other moto-neurons, and it is not necessary to infer from the early onset of inhibition that a specific inhibitory action is produced by the arrival of impulses at the synapses made by the recurrent collaterals with other neurons.
