The Osmotic Potential of Polyethylene Glycol 6000
TLDR
Osmotic potential (psi(s)) of aqueous solutions of polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG-6000) was curvilinearly related to concentration and increased linearly with temperature.Abstract:
Osmotic potential (ψs) of aqueous solutions of polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG-6000) was curvilinearly related to concentration. At given concentrations, ψs increased linearly with temperature. The effects of concentration and temperature on ψs of PEG-6000 solutions differ from those for most salts and sugars and apparently are related to structural changes in the PEG polymer. Measurements of ψs with thermocouple psychrometers are more negative than those with a vapor pressure osmometer, with the psychrometer probably giving the more nearly correct ψs for bulk solutions. An empirical equation permits calculation of ψs from known concentrations of PEG-6000 over a temperature range of 15 to 35 C. Viscometery and gravimetric analysis are convenient methods by which the concentrations of PEG-6000 solutions may be measured.read more

Seed treatments to overcome salt and drought stress during germination in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)
TL;DR: It was concluded that inhibition of germination at the same water potential of NaCl and PEG resulted from osmotic effect rather than salt toxicity, and hydropriming increased germination and seedling growth under salt and drought stresses.

Evaluation of the water potentials of solutions of polyethylene glycol 8000 both in the absence and presence of other solutes.
TL;DR: Published and additional data for polyethylene glycol 8000 (PEG), formerly PEG 6000, solution water potentials (Psi), and results indicate that the coefficients are not virial.

TL;DR: A proteome analysis of the model plant Arabidopsis revealed new proteins associated with the different phases of seed germination and priming and highlighted the power of proteomics to unravel specific features of complex developmental processes such as germination.

Alleviation of drought stress effects in sunflower seedlings by the exopolysaccharides producing Pseudomonas putida strain GAP-P45
TL;DR: The strain GAP-P45, isolated from alfisol of sunflower rhizosphere, showed the highest level of EPS production under water stress conditions, was identified as Pseudomonas putida on the basis of 16S rDNA sequence analysis, and was used as seed treatment to study its effect in alleviating drought stress effects in sunflower seedlings.
