SKUTTERUDITES : A phonon-glass-electron crystal approach to advanced thermoelectric energy conversion applications

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to compare one potential thermoelectric material with another, based on a numerical expression that is commonly used to compare the performance or efficiency of a particular device made from a material.
Journal ArticleDOI

Properties of single crystalline semiconducting CoSb3

TL;DR: In this article, the thermoelectric properties of the skutterudite compound CoSb3 were investigated on single crystals grown by the Bridgman gradient freeze technique and the results of the transport property measurements are discussed and are in agreement with some recent predictions based on band structure calculations.

Energy bands in TX2 compounds with pyrite, marcasite, and arsenopyrite structures

TL;DR: In this paper, the gross features of the energy bands can be rationalized for compounds crystallizing in the pyrite, marcasite and arsenopyrite structures, and the measured physical properties are shown to satisfy the requirements of the band schemes for these structures, but also the constraints of the periodic table in comparison with other transition-metal compounds.

Faraday Balance for Measuring Magnetic Susceptibility

TL;DR: In this article, an apparatus for measuring magnetic susceptibility by the Faraday method is described, which is capable of measuring susceptibilities ranging from 0.01×10−6 to 500 × 10−6 emu/g over a temperature range of 5 to 300 K, in fields up to 10 kOe, with a precision of 0.2%.

Conceptual phase diagram and its application to the spontaneous magnetism of several pyrites

TL;DR: In this paper, a T - n l - b phase diagram is constructed, where n l gives the occupancy of the narrow σ∗ band determined by chemistry and b ∼ ϵλ σ is proportional to the width of the σ ∗ band in the itinerant-electron domain.
