Modern Theory of Solids. III

TL;DR: In this article, the authors reviewed the classical theories of the solid state, and sketched an outline of the modern wave mechanical theory, showing that the valence electrons of a solid occupy an energy spectrum composed of zones of energy levels, and that the observed differences among various solids can be correlated largely with differences in the distribution and population of these zones.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alkali adsorption on W(110) studied by metastable impact electron spectroscopy

TL;DR: In this paper, the adsorption of alkali atoms (Li, Na, K, Cs) on W(110) at room temperature has been studied by MIES and UPS as a function of the alkali coverage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low energy D+ scattering from clean and alkalated TiO2(110) surfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, low energy D+ scattering (E0 = 100 eV) is employed to explore the bond nature of the TiO2(110) surface with and without alkali-metal (AM) adatoms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Alkali-metal adsorption on Al(111) and Al(100)

TL;DR: In this paper, density-functional theory calculations for Na and K adsorbatcs on aluminum where new adsorbate geometries are predicted are discussed, including hollow, on-top, and substitutional sites and a condensation phase transition of the (initially, mutually repelling) alkali adatoms into islands.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electronic structure of adsorbed alkali atoms for comparison with UPS data

TL;DR: In this paper, the induced density of states in alkali chemisorption was extended to include the valence np level in addition to the s level to take account of the possibility of sp hybridization.
