Thermodynamic optimization of finned crossflow heat exchangers for aircraft environmental control systems

TLDR
In this paper, the main geometric features of a flow component can be deduced from the thermodynamic optimization of the global performance of the largest flow system that incorporates the component, and the method illustrated in this paper is applicable to any system that runs on the basis of a limited amount of fuel (exergy) installed onboard.

Energy and cost optimization of a plate and fin heat exchanger using genetic algorithm

TL;DR: In this article, a plate and fin heat exchanger is considered and air, as an ideal gas, is defined in both sides of the heat exchange as the working fluid Several geometric variables within the logical constraints are considered as optimization parameters Two different objective functions including the total rate of heat transfer and the total annual cost of the system are defined.

Thermodynamic optimization of cross flow plate-fin heat exchanger using a particle swarm optimization algorithm

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored the use of particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for thermodynamic optimization of a cross flow plate-fin heat exchanger, and the results of optimization using PSO are validated by comparing with those obtained by using GA.

Second law based optimisation of crossflow plate-fin heat exchanger design using genetic algorithm

TL;DR: A genetic algorithm based optimisation technique has been developed for crossflow plate-fin heat exchangers using offset-strip fins that aims at minimising the number of entropy generation units for a specified heat duty under given space restrictions.

Optimization of a commercial aircraft environmental control system

TL;DR: In this paper, two optimization criteria, minimum weight and minimum entropy generation, are simultaneously applied to deduce the main geometric characteristics of the two finned cross-flow heat exchangers that the environmental control system (ECS) of commercial aircraft normally incorporate.
