Two-step gasification of flash pyrolysis and hydropyrolysis chars from low-rank Canadian coals

In this study, chars produced by flash pyrolysis or hydropyrolysis of low-rank Canadian coals were gasified in an air atmosphere using the temperature-programmed-reaction (TPR) method. It was observed that some chars gasify in what appears to be two steps. It is possible to fit the two-step data by use of a simple model that fits the continuous weight loss data well by assuming parallel gasification of two chars of different reactivities. It seems likely that two-step gasification indicates chars of nonuniform reactivity or uneven ash distributionread more

The Influence of Inorganic Materials on the Thermal Deactivation of Fuel Chars
TL;DR: The influence of inorganic material on the thermal deactivation of a biomass fuel and a coal was investigated in this paper, where the influence of catalysts for char oxidation in both the biomass and the coal is significant up to HTT = 1273 K.
