Utilization of glucose, alanine, lactate, and glycerol as lipogenic substrates by periuterine adipose tissue in situ in fed and starved rats.

TLDR
The utilization of the infused substrate for fatty acids and glyceride-glycerol synthesis by the tissue was quantified by taking into account the infused radioactivity, the difference in the amount of 14C-labeled lipids appearing in periuterine adipose tissue on the left and the right sides, the arterial plasma concentration of the studied metabolite, and the uterine horn blood flow.

Fuel metabolism in pregnancy and in gestational diabetes mellitus.

TL;DR: Fuel metabolism during pregnancy and in gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is reviewed with emphasis on carbohydrate and fat metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Decreased lipolysis and enhanced glycerol and glucose utilization by adipose tissue prior to development of obesity in monosodium glutamate (MSG) treated-rats.

TL;DR: It is proposed that an enhanced insulin sensitivity in 1 month old MSG rats is responsible for the decreased lipolytic activity and enhanced glucose uptake, which disturbs the normal balance between fat depots breakdown and accumulation in favor of the latter.

Cholesterol starvation decreases P34cdc2 kinase activity and arrests the cell cycle at G2

TL;DR: It is concluded that in both lymphoblastoid and promyelocytic cells, cholesterol availability governs the G2 traversal, probably by affecting p34cdc2 activity, and cholesterol starvation decreases P34CDc2 kinase activity and arrests the cell cycle at G2.

Dose-dependent effects of lovastatin on cell cycle progression. Distinct requirement of cholesterol and non-sterol mevalonate derivatives.

TL;DR: The distinct roles of mevalonate, or its non-sterol derivatives, and cholesterol in cell cycle progression, both being required for normal cell cycling are demonstrated.

A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.

Control of Gluconeogenesis from Amino Acids in the Perfused Rat Liver

TL;DR: It is proposed that glucagon and possibly catecholamines play a role in the physiological regulation of gluconeogenesis from amino acids by increasing the formation of cyclic 3',5'AMP, which acts to stimulate both the transport of amino acids into the hepatic cell and the conversion of pyruvate to P-pyruvates.

A rapid enzymatic assay for glycerol.

TL;DR: An alternative and more rapid method has been developed which is based on the following reactions: glycerol + ATP + L-glycerol 1-phosphate + ADP (glycersol kinase) ADP + phosphoenolpyruvate + NADH2 (lactate dehydrogenase)
