In this article, the authors demonstrate experimentally that air-silica microstructure optical fibers can exhibit anomalous dispersion at visible wavelengths, and exploit this feature to generate an optical continuum 550 THz in width, extending from the violet to the infrared.
Abstract
We demonstrate experimentally for what is to our knowledge the first time that air–silica microstructure optical fibers can exhibit anomalous dispersion at visible wavelengths. We exploit this feature to generate an optical continuum 550 THz in width, extending from the violet to the infrared, by propagating pulses of 100-fs duration and kilowatt peak powers through a microstructure fiber near the zero-dispersion wavelength.

Fabrication of highly nonlinear germano-silicate glass optical fiber incorporated with PbTe semiconductor quantum dots using atomization doping process and its optical nonlinearity.

TL;DR: The absorption bands attributed to PbTe semiconductor quantum dots in the fiber core were found to appear at around 687 nm and 1055 nm, and the nonlinear refractive index measured by the long-period fiber grating pair method upon pumping with laser diode was estimated to be ~1.5 × 10(-16) m2/W.

Observation of symmetrical reflection sidebands in a silica suspended-core fiber Bragg grating.

TL;DR: The temperature and strain responses of the fiber Bragg gratings are characterized, and it is shown that both responses in the suspended-core fiber are 20 to 25% lower than that of a Fiber Bragg grating written on a conventional fiber.

Optical Coherence Tomography: Principles and Applications

TL;DR: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) as mentioned in this paper is an emerging technology for performing high-resolution cross-sectional imaging, analogous to ultrasound, except that it uses light instead of sound to generate images of tissue with micron-scale resolution.
