Water distribution in incubated slices of brain and other tissues.

TLDR
With glutamate or high potassium in the medium, swelling is increased and the non-thiocyanate, non-sucrose, and non-inulin spaces increase correspondingly, and this increase is apparently intracellular.
Abstract
Slices of rat cerebral cortex swell about 40% during one hour's aerobic incubation in bicarbonate-buffered medium. Thiocyanate or sucrose added to the medium equilibrate with part of the tissue flu...

Spaces in brain tissue in vitro and in vivo.

TL;DR: In this review, thiocyanate, sucrose, insulin and labeled protein are used in place of tissue water to study the distribution in incubated cerebral cortex of substances thought to equilibrate with extracellular tissue water.

The effect of primycin on the intracellular monovalent ion and water contents of rat hepatocytes as revealed by energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis and interference microscopy

TL;DR: The conclusion is drawn that the increased level of hydration of the nuclear substances reflects a 'decondensation' of the chromatin which on the other hand, may represent the basis for the various effects of primycin on the induction of certain hepatic enzymes.

The effects of sodium, potassium and calcium on metabolism of rat's cerebral cortical slice with or without electrical stimulation.

TL;DR: A somewhat different experimental procedure is taken to manifest the role of external sodium in metabolism of separated mammalian cerebral cortical tissue in both the presence and absence of electrical stimulation in correlation to the effects of potassium and calcium.

Swelling of brain slices: non-osmotic reversion caused by metabolic intermediates.

TL;DR: In this article, die Wasseraufnahme von Kaninchen-Hirnschnitten durch Zugabe bestimmter Substanzen zur Inkubationslosung auf nichtosmotischem Weg verringert werden kann.
