Abstract: Disclosed is an improved detergent composition comprising one or more anionic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, or mixtures thereof, and detersive enzymes, the improvement which comprises incorporating into said composition an enzyme performance-enhancing amount of a polyhydroxy fatty acid amide material of formula (I), wherein R1 is H1, C1-C4 hydrocarbyl, 2-hydroxy ethyl, 2-hydroxy propyl, or a mixture thereof, R2 is C5-C31 of hydrocarbyl, and Z is a polyhydroxyhydrocarbyl having a linear hydrocarbyl chain with at least three hydroxyls directly connected to said chain, or an alkoxylated derivative thereof.

Abstract: An adsorbent for a serum amyloid protein, which comprises a water-insoluble carrier and either a compound selected from the group consisting of a compound having an anionic functional group, a polyanionic compound having more than one anionic functional groups, aniline and an aniline derivative, said compound being immobilized onto said carrier, or a group of the formula: --NR1 R2, wherein R1 is hydrogen atom, methyl group or ethyl group, and R2 is an atomic group satisfying that the value of log P, in which P is a distribution coefficient in a water-octanol system, of a compound of the formula: R2 H is from 0 to 3.2, said group being bonded to said carrier, and a method for removing a serum amyloid protein from body fluid through a removing apparatus using the above adsorbent. According to the present invention, SA proteins, particularly SAA proteins and SAP proteins can be selectively removed from body fluid without decreasing HDL largely. Besides, the adsorbent can be provided at a low cost.

Abstract: New polydentate ligands having (2-imidazolylethyl)amino and (2-benzimidazolylethyl)amino groups have been prepared via the imidate esters derived from N-(2-cyanoethyl)benzamides. These chelating ligands form stable copper(I) complexes that react with dioxygen at low temperature to give adducts presumed to be dinuclear peroxo complexes on the basis of the similarity of their electronic spectra with those for analogous pyridine-ligated species. Abstract: Factors that govern chemical and optical yields of methyl γ-hydroxy-α,β-unsaturated esters 1 formed in reactions of optically active sulfinylacetates 2 with aldehydes (the «SPAC» reaction) are defined. Racemic samples of these chirons (1) can be resolved via acylations mediated by crude preparations of the lipase Pseudomonas K-10 in organic solvents. Combinations of asymmetric SPAC reactions with these biocatalytic resolutions provide routes to highly optically active esters 1 in good yields. This methodology is applied in a completely asymmetric synthesis of (4S-cis)-5-(cyclohexylmethyl)-4-hydroxy-2-pyrrolidinone (15), a cyclic derivative of (3S,4S)-4-amino-5-cyclohexyl-3-hydroxypentanoic acid (ACHPA)

Abstract: A second derivative spectroscopic method for the determination of p-aminophenol in paracetamol powder is described. Second derivative absorbance (d2A/dλ2) values were measured at 223.8 nm (Δ = 4.2 nm) where p-aminophenol showed derivative responses obeying Beer's Law but paracetamol had negligible derivative absorption. The concentrations of p-aminophenol solutions prepared in 0.1 N HCl (0.12–7.61 mcg/ml), containing constant amounts of paracetamol (20 mcg/ml) related linearly with the d2A/dλ2 values and gave a straight line (r = −0.9999). The method allowed determination of 0.5% to 38% of p-aminophenol in paracetamol without prior separation, it is rapid, precise and accurate.
