Journal ArticleDOI
Proteinuria as a surrogate outcome in CKD: report of a scientific workshop sponsored by the National Kidney Foundation and the US Food and Drug Administration.
Andrew S. Levey,Daniel C. Cattran,Aaron L. Friedman,W. Greg Miller,John R. Sedor,Katherine R. Tuttle,Bertram L. Kasiske,Thomas H. Hostetter +7 more
TL;DR: There appears to be sufficient evidence to recommend changes in proteinuria as a surrogate for kidney disease progression in only selected circumstances, and collaboration among many groups, including academia, industry, the FDA, and the National Institutes of Health are recommended to share data from past and future studies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating suPAR in Two Cohorts of Primary FSGS
Changli Wei,Howard Trachtman,Jing Li,Chuanhui Dong,Aaron L. Friedman,Jennifer J. Gassman,June L. McMahan,Milena Radeva,Karsten M. Heil,Agnes Trautmann,Ali Anarat,Sevinç Emre,Gian M. Ghiggeri,Fatih Ozaltin,Dieter Haffner,Debbie S. Gipson,Frederick J. Kaskel,Dagmar-Christiane Fischer,Franz Schaefer,Jochen Reiser +19 more
TL;DR: Circulating suPAR levels are elevated in geographically and ethnically diverse patients with FSGS and do not reflect a nonspecific proinflammatory milieu, and the associations between a change in circulating suPAR with different therapeutic regimens and with remission support the role of suPAR in the pathogenesis of FSGS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical trial of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis in children and young adults
Debbie S. Gipson,Howard Trachtman,Frederick J. Kaskel,Tom Greene,Milena Radeva,Jennifer J. Gassman,Marva Moxey-Mims,Ronald J. Hogg,Sandra L. Watkins,Richard N. Fine,Susan L. Hogan,John P. Middleton,V. Matti Vehaskari,Patti A. Flynn,Leslie M. Powell,Suzanne Vento,June L. McMahan,Norman J. Siegel,Vivette D. D'Agati,Aaron L. Friedman +19 more
TL;DR: This study did not find a difference in rates of proteinuria remission following 12 months of cyclosporine compared to mycophenolate/dexamethasone in patients with steroid-resistant FSGS, however, the small sample size might have prevented detection of a moderate treatment effect.
Journal Article
Renal insufficiency after bone marrow transplantation in children.
TL;DR: Renal insufficiency is a frequent sequela in children following BMT and likely results from a combination of radiation injury and drug toxicity, and three major predictors of renalInsufficiency were discovered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Features and Histology of Apolipoprotein L1-Associated Nephropathy in the FSGS Clinical Trial
Jeffrey B. Kopp,Cheryl A. Winkler,Xiongce Zhao,Milena Radeva,Jennifer J. Gassman,Vivette D. D'Agati,Cynthia C. Nast,Changli Wei,Jochen Reiser,Lisa M. Guay-Woodford,Martin R. Pollak,Friedhelm Hildebrandt,Marva Moxey-Mims,Debbie S. Gipson,Howard Trachtman,Aaron L. Friedman,Frederick J. Kaskel +16 more
TL;DR: APOL1 risk genotypes are common in African-American subjects with primary FSGS and may also be present in individuals who do not self-identify as African American, and greater propensity to progress to ESRD.
