Living the Good Life? Mortality and Hospital Utilization Patterns in the Old Order Amish
Braxton D. Mitchell,Woei-Jyh Lee,Magdalena I. Tolea,Kelsey Shields,Zahra Ashktorab,Laurence S. Magder,Kathleen A. Ryan,Toni I. Pollin,Patrick F. McArdle,Alan R. Shuldiner,Alan R. Shuldiner,Alejandro A. Schäffer +11 more
TL;DR: Compared lifespan in the Old Order Amish (OOA), a population with historically low use of medical care, with that of Caucasian participants from the Framingham Heart Study (FHS), it is speculated that lifestyle factors may predispose the OOA to greater longevity and perhaps to lesser hospital use.
Journal ArticleDOI
A structure-based method for protein sequence alignment
Maricel G. Kann,Paul A. Thiessen,Anna R. Panchenko,Alejandro A. Schäffer,Stephen F. Altschul,Stephen H. Bryant +5 more
TL;DR: SALTO as mentioned in this paper aligns protein query sequences to position-specific scoring matrices (PSSMs) using rules for placing and scoring gaps that are consistent with the conserved regions of domain alignments from NCBI's conserved domain database.
Journal ArticleDOI
rh_tsp_map 3.0
TL;DR: Some of the features added between the initial rh_tsp_map version 1.0 and the current version 3.0 are presented, emphasizing the automation of many steps and addition of various checks designed to find problems with the input data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fluorescence in situ hybridization markers for prediction of cervical lymph node metastases.
Darawalee Wangsa,Darawalee Wangsa,Kerstin Heselmeyer-Haddad,Patricia Ried,Elina Eriksson,Alejandro A. Schäffer,Larry E. Morrison,Juhua Luo,Gert Auer,Eva Munck-Wikland,Thomas Ried,Elisabeth Åvall Lundqvist +11 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that the composite FISH marker may be useful for determining risk for subsequent development of lymph node metastases in patients with cervical cancer.
Journal ArticleDOI
Triangulating three-colored graphs in linear time and linear space
TL;DR: It is noted that three-colored triangulatable graphs are always planar, and this fact is modified to modify Kannan and Warnow’s algorithm to obtain an algorithm that uses both linear time and linear space.
