TL;DR: Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) project as mentioned in this paper is a project of the U.S. Department of Energy that aims to develop and validate the E3SM model.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Future of Arctic Sea Ice
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that it is critical to advance hierarchical regional climate modeling and coordinate it with the design of an integrated Arctic observing system to constrain models to better understand the past and present states and estimate future trajectories of Arctic sea ice and climate.
Journal ArticleDOI
The DOE E3SM Coupled Model Version 1: Description and Results at High Resolution
Peter M. Caldwell,Azamat Mametjanov,Qi Tang,Luke Van Roekel,Jean-Christophe Golaz,Wuyin Lin,David C. Bader,Noel Keen,Yan Feng,Robert Jacob,Mathew Maltrud,Andrew Roberts,Mark A. TL;DR: Caldwell et al. as mentioned in this paper provided an overview of the coupled high-resolution version 1 of the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SMv1) and documents the characteristics of a 50-year-long highresolution control simulation with time-invariant 1950 forcings following the HighResMIP protocol.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Ongoing Need for High-Resolution Regional Climate Models: Process Understanding and Stakeholder Information
William J. Gutowski,Paul A. Ullrich,Alex Hall,L. R. Leung,Travis A. O'Brien,Christina M. Patricola,Raymond W. Arritt,Melissa Bukovsky,Katherine Calvin,Zhe Feng,Andrew D. Jones,Gabriel J. Kooperman,Erwan Monier,Michael S. Pritchard,Sara C. Pryor,Yun Qian,Alan M. Rhoades,Andrew Roberts,Koichi Sakaguchi,Nathan M. Urban,Colin M. Zarzycki +20 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors highlight examples of current approaches to regional climate modeling, which address the need to understand and simulate climatic processes and phenomena unresolved in global models, and present several examples of such approaches.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial and temporal characterization of sea-ice deformation
TL;DR: In this article, an array of GPS ice drifters was deployed in the Beaufort Sea as part of the Sea Ice Experiment: Dynamic Nature of the Arctic (SEDNA).
