Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of extending device longevity on the long-term costs of implantable cardioverter-defibrillator therapy: a modelling study with a 15-year time horizon
Giuseppe Boriani,Frieder Braunschweig,Jean Claude Deharo,Francisco Leyva,Andrzej Lubiński,Carlo Lazzaro +5 more
TL;DR: Extending device longevity has an important effect on the long-term cost of device therapy, both for ICD and CRT-D, which has important implications for device choice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tracing the European course of cardiac resynchronization therapy from 2006 to 2008
Béla Merkely,Attila Roka,Valentina Kutyifa,Lucas V.A. Boersma,Antoine Leenhardt,Andrzej Lubiński,Ali Oto,Alessandro Proclemer,Josep Brugada,Panos Vardas,Christian Wolpert +10 more
TL;DR: Focusing on improving factors including local reimbursement of CRT, the existence of national guidelines, and a high number of conventional implantable cardioverter-defibrillator implantations may increase the availability ofCRT in countries where it is currently underutilized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prediction of mortality benefit based on periodic repolarisation dynamics in patients undergoing prophylactic implantation of a defibrillator: a prospective, controlled, multicentre cohort study
Axel Bauer,Axel Bauer,Mathias Klemm,Konstantinos D. Rizas,Wolfgang Hamm,Lukas von Stülpnagel,Lukas von Stülpnagel,Michael Dommasch,Alexander Steger,Andrezej Lubinski,Panagiota Flevari,Markus Harden,Tim Friede,Stefan Kääb,Béla Merkely,Christian Sticherling,Rik Willems,Heikki V. Maier,Steffen Behrens,Zrinka Jurisic,Frieder Braunschweig,Florian Blaschke,Burkert Pieske,Zoran Bakotic,Ante Anic,Robert H. G. Schwinger,Pyotr G. Platonov +97 more
TL;DR: periodic repolarisation dynamics predict mortality reductions associated with prophylactic implantation of ICDs in contemporarily treated patients with ischaemic or non-ischaemic cardiomyopathy and could help to guide treatment decisions about prophyllactic ICD implantation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Atrial high-rate episodes: prevalence, stroke risk, implications for management, and clinical gaps in evidence
Emanuele Bertaglia,Benjamin F. Blank,Carina Blomström-Lundqvist,Axel Brandes,Axel Brandes,Nuno Cabanelas,G-Andrei Dan,Wolfgang Dichtl,Andreas Goette,Joris R. de Groot,Andrzej Lubiński,Eloi Marijon,Béla Merkely,Lluís Mont,Christopher Piorkowski,Andrea Sarkozy,Neil Sulke,Panos E. Vardas,Vasil Velchev,Dan Wichterle,Paulus Kirchhof +20 more
TL;DR: A comprehensive, tabulated review of published literature on the prevalence of atrial high-rate episodes and their impact on risk of stroke in patients with AHRE and in patients without AHRE, found that oral anticoagulation has the potential to reduce stroke risk but is associated with a rate of major bleeding of 2%/year.
Journal ArticleDOI
A multicentre, double-blind randomized crossover comparative study on the efficacy and safety of dofetilide vs sotalol in patients with inducible sustained ventricular tachycardia and ischaemic heart disease
Giuseppe Boriani,Andrzej Lubiński,Alessandro Capucci,P. Niederle,Z. Kornacewicz-Jack,A.M. Wnuk-Wojnar,Martin Borggrefe,Johannes Brachmann,Mauro Biffi,Ghazwan Butrous +9 more
TL;DR: Dofetilide was as efficacious as sotalol in preventing the induction of sustained ventricular tachycardia and well tolerated during the long term with no statistically significant difference in the adverse events.
