TL;DR: Patients with takotsubo cardiomyopathy had a higher prevalence of neurologic or psychiatric disorders than did those with an acute coronary syndrome and physical triggers, acute neurologics or psychiatric diseases, high troponin levels, and a low ejection fraction on admission were independent predictors for in-hospital complications.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oxidative Stress in Cardiovascular Diseases: Still a Therapeutic Target?
Thomas Senoner,Wolfgang Dichtl +1 more
TL;DR: This review aims at giving an introduction into oxidative stress in CVD, with special focus on endothelial dysfunction, and then examining in detail the role of oxidative Stress in the most prevalent of these diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multislice Computed Tomography in Infective Endocarditis: Comparison With Transesophageal Echocardiography and Intraoperative Findings
Gudrun Feuchtner,Paul Stolzmann,Wolfgang Dichtl,Thomas Schertler,Johannes Bonatti,Hans Scheffel,Silvana Mueller,André Plass,Ludwig C. Mueller,Thomas Bartel,Florian Wolf,Hatem Alkadhi +11 more
TL;DR: Multislice CT shows good results in detecting valvular abnormalities in IE and could be applied in pre-operative planning and exclusion of coronary artery disease before surgery.
Journal ArticleDOI
HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors Regulate Inflammatory Transcription Factors in Human Endothelial and Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
Wolfgang Dichtl,Jozef Dulak,Matthias Frick,Hannes Alber,Severin P. Schwarzacher,Mikko P.S. Ares,Jan Nilsson,Otmar Pachinger,Franz Weidinger +8 more
TL;DR: Findings support the concept that statins have antiinflammatory and antiproliferative effects that are relevant in the treatment of atherosclerotic diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma tumour necrosis factor-alpha and early carotid atherosclerosis in healthy middle-aged men.
Tiina Skoog,Wolfgang Dichtl,Susanna Boquist,C. Skoglund-Andersson,Fredrik Karpe,Rong Tang,M. G. Bond,U de Faire,Jan Nilsson,Per Eriksson,Anders Hamsten +10 more
TL;DR: The plasma TNF-alpha concentration is associated with degrees of early atherosclerosis and correlates with metabolic and cellular perturbations that are considered important for the vascular process.
