Visfatin: a protein secreted by visceral fat that mimics the effects of insulin.
Atsunori Fukuhara,Morihiro Matsuda,Masako Nishizawa,Katsumori Segawa,Masaki Tanaka,Kae Kishimoto,Yasushi Matsuki,Mirei Murakami,Tomoko Ichisaka,Hiroko Murakami,Eijiro Watanabe,Toshiyuki Takagi,Megumi Akiyoshi,Tsuguteru Ohtsubo,Shinji Kihara,Shizuya Yamashita,Makoto Makishima,Tohru Funahashi,Shinya Yamanaka,Ryuji Hiramatsu,Yuji Matsuzawa,Iichiro Shimomura,Iichiro Shimomura +22 more
TL;DR: A newly identified adipocytokine, visfatin, that is highly enriched in the visceral fat of both humans and mice and whose expression level in plasma increases during the development of obesity is isolated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adipose Tissue Hypoxia in Obesity and Its Impact on Adipocytokine Dysregulation
Naomi Hosogai,Atsunori Fukuhara,Kazuya Oshima,Yugo Miyata,Sachiyo Tanaka,Katsumori Segawa,Shigetada Furukawa,Yoshihiro Tochino,Ryutaro Komuro,Morihiro Matsuda,Iichiro Shimomura +10 more
TL;DR: It is shown that adipose tissue of obese mice is hypoxic and that local adipose tissues hypoxia dysregulates the production of adipocytokines, and the results suggest that hypoperfusion and Hypoxia in adipose organs underlie the dysregulated production of fat-derived secretory factors and metabolic syndrome in obesity.

Journal ArticleDOI
Adiponectin increases bone mass by suppressing osteoclast and activating osteoblast.
Kazuya Oshima,Akihide Nampei,Morihiro Matsuda,Masanori Iwaki,Atsunori Fukuhara,Jun Hashimoto,Hideki Yoshikawa,Iichiro Shimomura,Iichiro Shimomura +8 more
TL;DR: In vitro studies showed that adiponectin inhibited M-CSF- and RANKL-induced differentiation of mouse bone marrow macrophages and human CD14-positive mononuclear cells into osteoclast and also suppressed the bone-resorption activity of osteoclasts, suggesting that adip onectin manipulation could be therapeutically beneficial for patients with osteopenia.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impact of Cilostazol on Restenosis After Percutaneous Coronary Balloon Angioplasty
Etsuo Tsuchikane,Atsunori Fukuhara,Tohru Kobayashi,Motohiro Kirino,Keita Yamasaki,Tomoko Kobayashi,Masahiro Izumi,Satoru Otsuji,Hitone Tateyama,Makoto Sakurai,Nobuhisa Awata +10 more
TL;DR: Cilostazol significantly reduces restenosis and target lesion revascularization rates after successful PTCA, and this effect is significantly lower than previously reported.
