Journal ArticleDOI
Association of apolipoprotein E allele epsilon 4 with late-onset familial and sporadic Alzheimer's disease.
Ann M. Saunders,Warren J. Strittmatter,Donald E. Schmechel,P. St. George-Hyslop,Margaret A. Pericak-Vance,S. H. Joo,B.L. Rosi,James F. Gusella,D. R. Crapper-MacLachlan,Mark J. Alberts,Christine M. Hulette,Barbara J. Crain,Dmitry Goldgaber,A. D. Roses +13 more
TL;DR: Data support the involvement of ApoE ϵ4 in the pathogenesis of late-onset familial and sporadic AD and suggest it may operate as a susceptibility gene (risk factor) for the clinical expression of AD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic studies in Alzheimer's disease with an NACP/α-synuclein polymorphism
Yu Xia,H.A.Rohan de Silva,B.L. Rosi,Larry H. Yamaoka,J. B. Rimmler,Margaret A. Pericak-Vance,Allen D. Roses,Xiaohua Chen,Eliezer Masliah,Richard DeTeresa,Akihiko Iwai,Mary Sundsmo,Ronald G. Thomas,C. Richard Hofstetter,Ethan Gregory,Lawrence A. Hansen,Robert Katzman,Leon J. Thal,Tsunao Saitoh +18 more
TL;DR: One of the NACP polymorphisms (NACP allele 2) was shown to have significant association with healthy elderly control individuals with apolipoprotein E risk, which may indicate a possible protective function of the allele.
Journal ArticleDOI
No Genetic Effect of α1-Antichymotrypsin in Alzheimer Disease
Jonathan L. Haines,M.L. Pritchard,Ann M. Saunders,Joellen M. Schildkraut,John H. Growdon,P. C. Gaskell,Lindsay A. Farrer,S. A. Auerbach,James F. Gusella,P. A. Locke,B.L. Rosi,Larry H. Yamaoka,Gary W. Small,P. M. Conneally,A. D. Roses,Margaret A. Pericak-Vance +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the role of α 1 -Antichymotrypsin (AACT) polymorphism in Alzheimer disease was examined in a large set of families and sporadic cases, and do not see any effect, either alone or in combination with the APOE-4 allele.
Journal ArticleDOI
No association or linkage between an intronic polymorphism of presenilin-1 and sporadic or late-onset familial Alzheimer disease.
William K. Scott,Larry H. Yamaoka,P. A. Locke,B.L. Rosi,P. C. Gaskell,Ann M. Saunders,P. M. Conneally,Gary W. Small,Lindsay A. Farrer,John H. Growdon,A. D. Roses,Margaret A. Pericak-Vance,Jonathan L. Haines +12 more
TL;DR: The conclusion that PSEN1 is a major susceptibility gene for late‐onset AD is not supported because model‐trait dependent (lod score) and independent (SimIBD) methods detected no evidence of linkage between PSen1 and AD.
Journal ArticleDOI
No association between very low density lipoprotein receptor (VLDL-R) and Alzheimer disease in American Caucasians.
Meredyth L. Pritchard,Ann M. Saunders,P. C. Gaskell,Gary W. Small,P.M. Conneally,B.L. Rosi,Larry H. Yamaoka,A. D. Roses,Jonathan L. Haines,Margaret A. Pericak-Vance +9 more
TL;DR: The very low density lipoprotein receptor gene (VLDL-R) is a receptor for apolipoprotein-epsilon (APOE)-containing lipoproteins, and thus has been suggested as a possible risk factor for Alzheimer disease (AD).
