The bHLH protein PTF1-p48 is essential for the formation of the exocrine and the correct spatial organization of the endocrine pancreas
Andrea Krapp,Martin Knöfler,Birgit Ledermann,Kurt Bürki,Catherine Berney,Nicole Zoerkler,Otto Hagenbüchle,Peter K. Wellauer +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that the presence of the exocrine Pancreas is required for the correct spatial assembly of the endocrine pancreas and that, in its absence, endocrine cells are directed by default to the spleen, a site that,in some reptiles, harbors part of this particular cellular compartment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Systemic Deletion of the Myelin-Associated Outgrowth Inhibitor Nogo-A Improves Regenerative and Plastic Responses after Spinal Cord Injury
Marjo Simonen,Vera Pedersen,Vera Pedersen,Oliver Weinmann,Oliver Weinmann,Lisa Schnell,Lisa Schnell,Armin Buss,Armin Buss,Birgit Ledermann,Franziska Christ,Franziska Christ,Gilles Sansig,Herman van der Putten,Martin E. Schwab,Martin E. Schwab +15 more
TL;DR: Two weeks following adult dorsal hemisection of the thoracic spinal cord, Nogo-A KO mice displayed more corticospinal tract (CST) fibers growing toward and into the lesion compared to their wild-type littermates, and CST fibers caudal to the lesions-regenerating and/or sprouting from spared intact fibers-were also found to be more frequent in Nogo
Journal ArticleDOI
Proliferation, but not growth, blocked by conditional deletion of 40S ribosomal protein S6.
Siniša Volarević,Mary J. Stewart,Birgit Ledermann,Frederic Zilberman,Luigi Terracciano,Eugenio Montini,Markus Grompe,Sara C. Kozma,George Thomas +8 more
TL;DR: Results imply that abrogation of 40S ribosome biogenesis may induce a checkpoint control that prevents cell cycle progression, and imply that ribosomal protein S6 deficient animals deficient in S6 grew in response to nutrients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeted mutation of plakoglobin in mice reveals essential functions of desmosomes in the embryonic heart.
Patricia Ruiz,Volker Brinkmann,Birgit Ledermann,Martin Behrend,Christine Grund,Christoph Thalhammer,Frank Vogel,Carmen Birchmeier,Ursula Günthert,Werner W. Franke,Walter Birchmeier +10 more
TL;DR: Plakoglobin is an essential component of myocardiac desmosomes and seems to play a crucial role in the sorting out of desmosomal and adherens junction components, and consequently in the architecture of intercalated discs and the stabilization of heart tissue.
Journal ArticleDOI
Distinct roles for lymphotoxin-alpha and tumor necrosis factor in organogenesis and spatial organization of lymphoid tissue.
Heinrich Körner,Matthew C. Cook,D. Sean Riminton,Frances A. Lemckert,Robert M. Hoek,Birgit Ledermann,Frank Köntgen,Barbara Fazekas de St Groth,Jonathon D. Sedgwick +8 more
TL;DR: A temporal hierarchy in lymphoid tissue development can now be defined, with LT being an essential participant in general lymphoids tissue organogenesis, developmentally preceeding TNF that has a more varied and subtle role in promotion of correct spatial organization of leukocytes in LN and spleen.
