Lam,Ed Tapper +35 more
TL;DR: MMF is associated with a significantly lower rate of treatment failure compared with AZA during the first 6 months after renal transplantation and produces a clinically important reduction in the incidence, severity, and treatment of acute graft rejection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of cyclosporine immunosuppression in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus of recent onset
Calvin R. Stiller,John Dupre,M. Gent,M. R. Jenner,P. A. Keown,Andreas Laupacis,R. Martell,N. W. Rodger,B. von Graffenried,B. M. J. Wolfe +9 more
TL;DR: A pilot study in which 41 patients were treated with the immunosuppressive agent cyclosporine for 2 to 12 months indicates that a controlled trial of the effects of cyclospora in type I diabetes should be conducted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Successful small-bowel/liver transplantation
David R. Grant,William Wall,Mimeault R,Robert Zhong,Cameron N. Ghent,Bertha Garcia,Calvin R. Stiller,John Duff +7 more
TL;DR: Small-bowel/liver grafting is feasible for patients with the short-gut syndrome and associated liver disorders and further experience is needed to determine the specific risks, benefits, and general applicability of this procedure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fibrous hyperplasia of the gingiva: A side effect of cyclosporin A therapy
TL;DR: The clinical and histopathologic findings are considered to be indistinguishable from the gingival hyperplasias induced by the anticonvulsant drug, phenytoin (diphenylhydantoin).
Journal ArticleDOI
Transgenic plants expressing autoantigens fed to mice to induce oral immune tolerance.
Shengwu Ma,D.-L. Zhao,Z.-Q. Yin,Rinee Mukherjee,Bhagirath Singh,Hui-Yu Qin,Calvin R. Stiller,Anthony M. Jevnikar +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that a GAD-expressing transgenic plant, given as a dietary supplement, inhibits the development of diabetes in the non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse.
