Generative Model-Based Loss to the Rescue: A Method to Overcome Annotation Errors for Depth-Based Hand Pose Estimation
TL;DR: This work proposes to use a model-based generative loss for training hand pose estimators on depth images based on a volumetric hand model and demonstrates that such an approach can be used to train on datasets that have erroneous annotations, while obtaining predictions that explain the depth images better than the given “ground truth.”

NRST: Non-rigid Surface Tracking from Monocular Video
Marc Habermann,Weipeng Xu,Helge Rhodin,Michael Zollhöfer,Gerard Pons-Moll,Christian Theobalt +5 more
TL;DR: An efficient method for non-rigid surface tracking from monocular RGB videos by forming the per-frame registration as an optimization problem that includes a novel texture term specifically tailored towards tracking objects with uniform texture but fine-scale structure, such as the regular micro-structural patterns of fabric.

3D Semantic Parameterization for Human Shape Modeling: Application to 3D Animation
TL;DR: This paper quantitatively shows that the semantic parameterization of statistical human body models such that shapes are controlled by a small set of intuitive semantic parameters is more reliable than standard semantic parameterizations, and shows a number of animations retargeted to the authors' semantic body shape model.
