Martin Beniston,Daniel Farinotti,Daniel Farinotti,Markus Stoffel,Liss M. Andreassen,Erika Coppola,Nicolas Eckert,Adriano Fantini,Florie Giacona,Christian Hauck,Matthias Huss,Hendrik Huwald,Michael Lehning,Juan I. López-Moreno,Jan Magnusson,Christoph Marty,Enrique Morán-Tejeda,Samuel Morin,Mohamed Naaim,Antonello Provenzale,Antoine Rabatel,Delphine Six,Johann Stötter,Ulrich Strasser,Silvia Terzago,Christian Vincent +25 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide an overview on the current knowledge on snow, glacier, and permafrost processes, as well as their past, current, and future evolution.
Journal ArticleDOI
Estimating the snow water equivalent from snow depth measurements in the Swiss Alps
TL;DR: In this paper, a large dataset was analyzed covering snow densities and depths measured biweekly over five decades at 37 sites throughout the Swiss Alps and four factors were identified to affect the bulk snow density: season, snow depth, site altitude, and site location.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global impacts of the 1980s regime shift
Philip C. Reid,Renata E. Hari,Grégory Beaugrand,David M. Livingstone,Christoph Marty,Dietmar Straile,Jonathan Barichivich,Jonathan Barichivich,Eric Goberville,Rita Adrian,Yasuyuki Aono,Ross Brown,James L. Foster,Pavel Ya. Sparks,René Stübi,Yongjun Tian,Karen Helen Wiltshire,Dong Xiao,Zaichun Zhu +29 more
TL;DR: The 1980s regime shift represented a major change in the Earth's biophysical systems from the upper atmosphere to the depths of the ocean and from the Arctic to the Antarctic, and occurred at slightly different times around the world.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regime shift of snow days in Switzerland
TL;DR: In this article, an investigation of 34 long-term stations between 200 and 1800 m asl (above sea level) going back for at least the last 60 years (1948-2007) shows an unprecedented series of low snow winters in the last 20 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Snow depth variability in the Northern Hemisphere mountains observed from space.
Hans Lievens,Hans Lievens,Matthias Demuzere,Matthias Demuzere,Hans-Peter Marshall,Hans-Peter Marshall,Rolf H. Reichle,Ludovic Brucker,Ludovic Brucker,Isis Brangers,Patricia de Rosnay,Marie Dumont,Manuela Girotto,Manuela Girotto,Manuela Girotto,Walter W. Immerzeel,Tobias Jonas,Edward J. Kim,Inka Koch,Christoph Marty,Tuomo Saloranta,Johannes Schöber,Gabrielle De Lannoy +22 more
TL;DR: Sentinel-1 satellite radar measurements are used to assess the snow depth in mountainous areas at 1 km² resolution and it is shown that the Sentinel-1 retrievals capture the spatial variability between and within mountain ranges, as well as their inter-annual differences.
