β-Lactones as a New Class of Cysteine Proteinase Inhibitors: Inhibition of Hepatitis A Virus 3C Proteinase by N-Cbz-serine β-Lactone

TL;DR: N-Benzyloxycarbonyl-l-serine β-lactone is shown to irreversibly inactivate the 3C cysteine proteinase of hepatitis A virus (HAV) with kinact = 0.84 × 10-4 M and kinact/KΙ = 3800 M-1 min-1 at an enzyme concentration of 0.1 μM.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clinical and microbiological characteristics associated with mortality in spontaneous bacterial peritonitis: a multicenter cohort study.

TL;DR: In this cohort, SBP portended high early mortality and Gram-positive bacteria, bacteria resistant to quinolones, and multiresistant bacteria were identified in considerable proportions of patients.
