Journal ArticleDOI
Association between implementation of an intensivist-led medical emergency team and mortality
TL;DR: In a single centre experience, implementation of an IL-MET did not reduce the rate of in-hospital death or lengths of stay and there were no significant differences in length of stay or mortality during all three periods.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute kidney injury in cirrhosis: implications for liver transplantation.
TL;DR: An overview of AKI definitions is provided, challenges in quantifying renal impairment in cirrhosis are highlighted, novel biomarkers may assist in identification of acute tubular necrosis and persistent/severe AKI are listed, and transplantation implications are summarized.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical Impact of Portal Vein Thrombosis Prior to Liver Transplantation: A Retrospective Cohort Study.
Constantine J. Karvellas,Filipe S. Cardoso,Marco Senzolo,Malcolm Wells,Mansour G. Alghanem,Fayaz Handou,Lukasz Kwapisz,Norman M. Kneteman,Paul Marotta,Bandar Al-Judaibi +9 more
TL;DR: Well-selected LT patients who had PVT prior to LT had similar post-LT outcomes to non-PVT LT recipients, and subgroups of PVT patients who did worse post- LT (complete/occlusive thrombosis pre-LT, Hepatitis C orPost-LT portal vein re-occlusion) warrant closer evaluation in listing and management post-LR.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Hepatokine TSK does not affect brown fat thermogenic capacity, body weight gain, and glucose homeostasis.
Mathilde Mouchiroud,Étienne Camiré,Manal Aldow,Alexandre Caron,Éric Jubinville,Laurie Turcotte,Inés Kaci,Marie Josée Beaulieu,Christian Roy,Sébastien M. Labbé,Thibault V. Varin,Yves Gélinas,Jennifer Lamothe,Jocelyn Trottier,Patricia L. Mitchell,Frédéric Guénard,William T. Festuccia,Philippe Joubert,Christopher F. Rose,Constantine J. Karvellas,Olivier Barbier,Mathieu C. Morissette,André Marette,Mathieu Laplante +23 more
TL;DR: It is found that TSK-null mice were not protected against the development of obesity and did not show improvement in glucose tolerance, and the overexpression of TSK failed to modulate thermogenesis, body weight gain, and glucose homeostasis in mice.
Journal ArticleDOI
Acute-on-chronic liver failure: Objective admission and support criteria in the intensive care unit.
TL;DR: Patients with a Chronic Liver Failure Consortium ACLF score greater than 70 at 48 to 72 hours post-ICU admission do not seem to benefit from ongoing intensive support and a palliative approach may be more appropriate.
