Prohibitin levels regulate OMA1 activity and turnover in neurons.
Corey Anderson,Anja Kahl,Hannah Fruitman,Liping Qian,Ping Zhou,Giovanni Manfredi,Costantino Iadecola +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that PHB promotes OMA1 turnover, effectively decreasing the pool of OPA1, and it is shown that Oma1 binds to cardiolipin (CL), a major mitochondrial phospholipid, which suggests PHB-mediated CL stabilization regulates stress responses and cell death through OMA 1 turnover and cyt c release.
Journal ArticleDOI
Slow-pressor angiotensin II hypertension and concomitant dendritic NMDA receptor trafficking in estrogen receptor β-containing neurons of the mouse hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus are sex and age dependent.
Jose Marques-Lopes,Tracey A. Van Kempen,Elizabeth M. Waters,Virginia M. Pickel,Costantino Iadecola,Teresa A. Milner,Teresa A. Milner +6 more
TL;DR: Testing the hypothesis that changes in ovarian hormones with age promote susceptibility to AngII hypertension, and influence NMDA receptor NR1 subunit trafficking in ERβ‐containing PVN neurons suggests that, in young female mice, NR1 density is decreased in ER β‐PVN dendrites thus reducingNMDA receptor activity and preventing hypertension.
Journal ArticleDOI
Liver Fibrosis Indices and Outcomes After Primary Intracerebral Hemorrhage.
Neal S. Parikh,Hooman Kamel,Babak B. Navi,Costantino Iadecola,Alexander E Merkler,Arun Jesudian,Jesse Dawson,Guido J. Falcone,Kevin N. Sheth,David Roh,Mitchell S.V. Elkind,Daniel F. Hanley,Wendy C. Ziai,Santosh B. Murthy +13 more
TL;DR: In patients with largely normal liver chemistries, 2 liver fibrosis indices were associated with admission hematoma volume, hematomas expansion, and mortality after intracerebral hemorrhage, and Indices were not associated with the composite of major disability or death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recommendations of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Working Group on Cerebrovascular Biology and Disease
Costantino Iadecola,Stephen S. Goldman,David R. Harder,Donald D. Heistad,Zvonimir S. Katusic,Michael A. Moskowitz,J. Marc Simard,Michael A. Sloan,Richard J. Traystman,Paul A. Velletri +9 more
TL;DR: A prioritized set of recommendations for NHLBI to establish a focused and comprehensive set of research activities in cerebrovascular biology and disease was developed.
Posted ContentDOI
Risk of Ischemic Stroke in Patients with Covid-19 versus Patients with Influenza
Alexander E Merkler,Neal S. Parikh,Saad Mir,Ajay Gupta,Hooman Kamel,Eaton Lin,Joshua E Lantos,Edward J. Schenck,Parag Goyal,Samuel S. Bruce,Joshua Kahan,Kelsey N Lansdale,Natalie M LeMoss,Santosh B. Murthy,Philip E. Stieg,Matthew E. Fink,Costantino Iadecola,Alan Z. Segal,Thomas R. Campion,Iván Díaz,Cenai Zhang,Babak B. Navi +21 more
TL;DR: Case series without control groups suggest that Covid-19 may cause ischemic stroke, but whether Covd-19 is associated with a higher risk of isChemic stroke than would be expected from a viral respiratory infection is uncertain.
