TL;DR: The “CKD Patch” can be used to quantitatively enhance ASCVD and CVD mortality risk prediction equations recommended in major US and European guidelines according to CKD measures, when available.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of Slopes of Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate With Post–End-Stage Renal Disease Mortality in Patients With Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease Transitioning to Dialysis
Keiichi Sumida,Miklos Z. Molnar,Praveen K. Potukuchi,Fridtjof Thomas,Jun Ling Lu,Jennie Jing,Vanessa A. Ravel,Melissa Soohoo,Connie M. Rhee,Elani Streja,Kamyar Kalantar-Zadeh,Kamyar Kalantar-Zadeh,Csaba P. Kovesdy,Csaba P. Kovesdy +13 more
TL;DR: Rapid eGFR decline is associated with higher all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, and increasing eG FR isassociated with higher infection-related mortality among incident dialysis cases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Malnutrition–Inflammation Score for risk stratification of patients with CKD: is it the promised gold standard?
TL;DR: It is concluded that although the MIS has been widely used in patients undergoing maintenance dialysis, its wide utility does not automatically make it the ultimate reference standard for assessing other nutritional scoring tools.
Journal ArticleDOI
Candidate Surrogate End Points for ESRD after AKI
Morgan E. Grams,Yingying Sang,Josef Coresh,Shoshana H. Ballew,Kunihiro Matsushita,Andrew S. Levey,Tom Greene,Miklos Z. Molnar,Zoltán Szabó,Kamyar Kalantar-Zadeh,Csaba P. Kovesdy +10 more
TL;DR: A 30%-40% decline in eGFR after AKI could be a surrogate end point for ESRD in trials of AKI prevention and/or treatment, but additional trial evidence is needed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Outcomes associated with serum phosphorus level in males with non-dialysis dependent chronic kidney disease.
TL;DR: The cumulative burden of hyperphosphatemia is associated with increased mortality in patients with moderate and advanced NDD-CKD, and lowering serum phosphorus can result in improved mortality in this population.
