Journal ArticleDOI
A new method for the evaluation of matches in non-recombining genomes: application to Y-chromosomal short tandem repeat (STR) haplotypes in European males.
Lutz Roewer,Manfred Kayser,P. de Knijff,Katja Anslinger,A. Betz,A. Caglià,Daniel Corach,S. Füredi,Lotte Henke,M. Hidding,H.J. Kärgel,R. Lessig,Marion Nagy,Vincenzo Lorenzo Pascali,Walther Parson,Burkhard Rolf,C. Schmitt,Reinhard Szibor,J. Teifel-Greding,Michael Krawczak +19 more
TL;DR: A new extrapolation method was developed which treats haplotype frequencies as random variables and generates estimates of the underlying distribution functions on the basis of closely related haplotypes, and application of the method to the quality assured reference Y-STR haplotype database described herein will prove very useful for the evaluation of positive trace-donor matches in forensic casework.
Book ChapterDOI
Genetic variation among the Mapuche Indians from the Patagonian region of Argentina: mitochondrial DNA sequence variation and allele frequencies of several nuclear genes.
C. Ginther,Daniel Corach,Gustavo Penacino,Jorge Rey,Francisco R. Carnese,Mara H. Hutz,A. Anderson,Jeanette J. Just,F. M. Salzano,Mary Claire King +9 more
TL;DR: The mtDNA sequence similarity between Amerind populations suggests that the migration throughout the Americas occurred rapidly relative to the mtDNA mutation rate.
Journal ArticleDOI
A GEP-ISFG collaborative study on the optimization of an X-STR decaplex: data on 15 Iberian and Latin American populations.
Leonor Gusmão,Paula Sánchez-Diz,Cíntia Alves,Iva Gomes,Iva Gomes,María T. Zarrabeitia,Mariel Abovich,Ivannia Atmetlla,Cecilia Bobillo,Luisa Bravo,Juan José Builes,Laura M. Cainé,Raquel Calvo,Elizeu Fagundes de Carvalho,Mónica Carvalho,Regina Maria Barretto Cicarelli,Laura Catelli,Daniel Corach,Marta Espinoza,Oscar Garcia,Marcelo Malaghini,Joyce da Silva Martins,Fátima Pinheiro,Maria João Porto,Eduardo Raimondi,José A. Riancho,Amelia Verdejo Rodríguez,A. Rodriguez,Belén Rodríguez Cardozo,Vicente Schneider,Sandra Monteiro Silva,Celso Tavares,Ulises Toscanini,Carlos Vullo,Martin R. Whittle,Iñaki Yurrebaso,Angel Carracedo,António Amorim +37 more
TL;DR: The allele frequencies for the ten X-STRs in 15 samples from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Portugal, and Spain are reported, with no significant differences between northern and central Portugal or between the two Spanish samples from Galicia and Cantabria.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic Consequences of Habitat Fragmentation in Black-and-Gold Howler (Alouatta caraya) Populations from Northern Argentina
TL;DR: Differences between habitats may reflect a reduced gene flow, providing genetic evidence that suggests that habitat fragmentation severely limits the howler’s ability to disperse.
Journal ArticleDOI
The EDNAP mitochondrial DNA population database (EMPOP) collaborative exercises: organisation, results and perspectives.
Walther Parson,Anita Brandstätter,Antonio Alonso,Nathalie Brandt,Bernd Brinkmann,Angel Carracedo,Daniel Corach,Olivier Froment,Ivana Furač,Tomasz Grzybowski,Karin Hedberg,Christine Keyser-Tracqui,Tomasz Kupiec,Sabine Lutz-Bonengel,B. Mevåg,Rafał Płoski,H. Schmitter,Peter M. Schneider,Denise Syndercombe-Court,Eric Sørensen,Heather Thew,Gillian Tully,R. Scheithauer +22 more
TL;DR: The results and earlier published concerns strongly emphasize the need for appropriate safety regulations when mtDNA profiles are compiled for database purposes in order to accomplish the high standard required for mtDNA databases that are used in the forensic context.
