TL;DR: The history of the global Argo Program, from its aspiration arising out of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment, to the development and implementation of its instrumentation and telecommunication systems, and the various technical problems encountered, is described in this article.
Journal ArticleDOI
Calibration, Response, and Hysteresis in Deep-Sea Dissolved Oxygen Measurements
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate a reengineered Sea-Bird Electronics dissolved-oxygen Clark electrode (SBE 43) and demonstrate the characterization of sensor time response over oceanographic temperatures and pressures as well as treating a timedependent, pressure-induced effect observed as hysteresis, most notably in deep-ocean oxygen profiles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Corrections for pumped SBE 41CP CTDs determined from stratified tank experiments
TL;DR: In this article, Sea-Bird Scientific SBE 41CP CTDs are used on autonomous floats in the global Argo ocean observing program to measure the temperature and salinity of the upper ocean.

Measurement of salinity and temperature profiles through the sea surface on argo floats
TL;DR: In this article, a free-flushing conductivity cell with a companion thermometer, designed to sample through the sea surface on Argo profiling floats, was used for surface salinity and temperature measurements.
