PrEP use and HIV seroconversion rates in adolescent girls and young women from Kenya and South Africa: the POWER demonstration project
Connie Celum,Elizabeth A. Bukusi,Linda-Gail Bekker,Sinead Delany-Moretlwe,Lara Kidoguchi,Victor Omollo,Elzette Rousseau,Danielle Travill,Jennifer F Morton,Felix Mogaka,Gabrielle O’Malley,Gena Barnabee,Ariane van der Straten,Deborah Donnell,Urvi M. Parikh,Lauren D. Kudrick,Peter J. Anderson,Jessica E. Haberer,Linxuan Wu,Renee Heffron,Rachel Johnson,Susan Morrison,Jared M. Baeten +22 more
TL;DR: Assessment of pre‐exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) initiation, use, persistence and HIV acquisition among African AGYW offered PrEP in order to inform PrEP scale‐up.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Deferred-Vaccination Design to Assess Durability of COVID-19 Vaccine Effect After the Placebo Group Is Vaccinated.
Dean Follmann,Jonathan Fintzi,Michael P. Fay,Holly Janes,Lindsey R. Baden,Hana M. El Sahly,Thomas R. Fleming,Devan V. Mehrotra,Lindsay N. Carpp,Michal Juraska,David Benkeser,Deborah Donnell,Youyi Fong,Shu Han,Ian Hirsch,Ying Huang,Yunda Huang,Ollivier Hyrien,Alex Luedtke,Marco Carone,Martha Nason,An Vandebosch,Honghong Zhou,Iksung Cho,Erin E. Gabriel,James G. Kublin,Myron S. Cohen,Lawrence Corey,Peter B. Gilbert,Kathleen M. Neuzil +29 more
TL;DR: In this article, the benefit of vaccination over time has been derived for both the original vaccine recipients and the original placebo recipients after their vaccination, and the derivation provides less precise estimates than would be obtained by a standard trial where the placebo group remains unvaccinated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Are there adverse consequences of quizzing during informed consent for HIV research
Jeremy Sugarman,Amy Corneli,Deborah Donnell,Ting Yuan Liu,Scott Rose,David D. Celentano,Brooks Jackson,Apinun Aramrattana,Liu Wei,Yiming Shao,F Liping,R Baoling,B Dye,David S. Metzger +13 more
TL;DR: Quizzing during the informed consent process can be problematic for a minority of participants, and problems may be associated with the setting in which research takes place and educational level.
Journal ArticleDOI
HIV-1-Neutralizing IgA Detected in Genital Secretions of Highly HIV-1-Exposed Seronegative Women on Oral Preexposure Prophylaxis
Jennifer M. Lund,Jennifer M. Lund,Kristina Broliden,Maria Pyra,Katherine K. Thomas,Deborah Donnell,Deborah Donnell,Elizabeth Irungu,Timothy R Muwonge,Nelly Mugo,Madhuri Manohar,Marianne Jansson,Romel D. Mackelprang,Mark A. Marzinke,Jared M. Baeten,Jairam R. Lingappa +15 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that PrEP and high levels of exposure to HIV may each enhance mucosal HIV-1-specific humoral immune responses in sexually exposed but HIV-2-uninfected individuals, as well as for cervicovaginal HIV-neutralizing IgA responses in genital mucosal secretions of HIV-exposed women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Objective Measurement of Inaccurate Condom Use Reporting Among Women Using Depot Medroxyprogesterone Acetate for Contraception
Renee Heffron,Urvi M. Parikh,Kerri J. Penrose,Nelly Mugo,Nelly Mugo,Deborah Donnell,Connie Celum,John W. Mellors,Jared M. Baeten,Partners PrEP Study Team +9 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that inaccurate reporting of condom use byDMPA users may not account for the heightened risk of HIV acquisition among DMPA users in some observational studies.
