Journal ArticleDOI

Possibility of combining ferroelectricity and Rashba-like spin splitting in monolayers of the 1 T -type transition-metal dichalcogenides M X 2 (M = Mo ,W ;X =S ,Se ,Te )

TL;DR: In this article, the possible coupling between spin-polarized electronic states and ferroelectric polarization in monolayers of transition-metal dichalcogenides with distorted octahedrally coordinated structures was explored.
Journal ArticleDOI

Toward Truly Single Crystalline GeTe Films: The Relevance of the Substrate Surface

TL;DR: In this article, the growth of GeTe thin films on a Si(111)-(√3 × √3)R30°-Sb surface is reported, and the formation of rotational domains in GeTe grown on Si(7 × 7) is explained by domain matched coincidence lattice formation with the Si(1 × 1) surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microscopic origin of chiral shape induction in achiral crystals

TL;DR: Using the submolecular resolution capability of scanning tunnelling microscopy, supported by photoelectron diffraction and density functional theory, it is shown how the chiral 'buckybowl' hemibuckminsterfullerene arranges copper surface atoms in its vicinity into a chiral morphology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Density functional calculations of the structural, electronic, and ferroelectric properties of high-k titanate Re2Ti2O7 (Re=La and Nd)

TL;DR: In this paper, the structural, electronic, and ferroelectric properties of La2Ti2O7 (LTO) and Nd2Ti 2O 7 (NTO) were studied by first-principles density functional theory calculations.
