CIP2A Is Associated with Human Breast Cancer Aggressivity
Christophe Côme,Anni Laine,Maïa Chanrion,Henrik Edgren,Elina Mattila,X. Liu,Jos Jonkers,Johanna Ivaska,Jorma Isola,Jean-Marie Darbon,Olli Kallioniemi,Simon Thezenas,Jukka Westermarck +12 more
TL;DR: The data show that CIP2A is associated with clinical aggressivity in human breast cancer and promotes the malignant growth of breast cancer cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
SHARPIN is an endogenous inhibitor of β1-integrin activation
Juha Rantala,Jeroen Pouwels,Jeroen Pouwels,Teijo Pellinen,Teijo Pellinen,Stefan Veltel,Stefan Veltel,Petra Laasola,Elina Mattila,Elina Mattila,Christopher S. Potter,Ted Duffy,John P. Sundberg,Olli Kallioniemi,Olli Kallioniemi,Janet A. Askari,Martin J. Humphries,Madeline Parsons,Marko Salmi,Johanna Ivaska,Johanna Ivaska +20 more
TL;DR: It is found that SHARPIN directly binds to a conserved cytoplasmic region of integrin α-subunits and inhibits recruitment of talin and kindlin to the integrin, which inhibits the critical switching of β1-integrins from inactive to active conformations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Negative regulation of EGFR signalling through integrin-alpha1beta1-mediated activation of protein tyrosine phosphatase TCPTP.
TL;DR: This work shows that a collagen-binding integrin α1β1 functions as a negative regulator of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signalling through the activation of a protein tyrosine phosphatase.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mutant p53–associated myosin-X upregulation promotes breast cancer invasion and metastasis
Antti Arjonen,Riina Kaukonen,Elina Mattila,Pegah Rouhi,Gunilla Högnäs,Harri Sihto,Bryan W. Miller,Jennifer P. Morton,Elmar Bucher,Pekka Taimen,Pekka Taimen,Reetta Virtakoivu,Yihai Cao,Yihai Cao,Owen J. Sansom,Heikki Joensuu,Johanna Ivaska +16 more
TL;DR: Data indicate that Myo10 upregulation in mutant p53-driven cancers is necessary for invasion and that plasma-membrane protrusions, such as filopodia, may serve as specialized metastatic engines.
Journal ArticleDOI
Vimentin–ERK Signaling Uncouples Slug Gene Regulatory Function
Reetta Virtakoivu,Reetta Virtakoivu,Anja Mai,Elina Mattila,Elina Mattila,Nicola De Franceschi,Nicola De Franceschi,Susumu Y. Imanishi,Garry L. Corthals,Riina Kaukonen,Riina Kaukonen,Markku Saari,Markku Saari,Fang Cheng,Fang Cheng,Elin Torvaldson,Elin Torvaldson,Veli-Matti Kosma,Arto Mannermaa,Ghaffar Muharram,Ghaffar Muharram,Christine Gilles,John E. Eriksson,Ylermi Soini,James B. Lorens,Johanna Ivaska,Johanna Ivaska +26 more
TL;DR: A novel vimentin-ERK axis that regulates the transcriptional activity of Slug (SNAI2) is described, which identified a pivotal step in controlling the ability of Slug to organize hallmarks of EMT.
