AIRUSE-LIFE+: a harmonized PM speciation and source apportionment in five southern European cities
Fulvio Amato,Andrés Alastuey,Angeliki Karanasiou,Franco Lucarelli,Silvia Nava,Giulia Calzolai,Mirko Severi,Silvia Becagli,V. Gianelle,C. Colombi,Célia Alves,Danilo Custódio,Teresa Nunes,Mário Cerqueira,Casimiro Pio,Konstantinos Eleftheriadis,Evangelia Diapouli,Cristina Reche,María Cruz Minguillón,M. Manousakas,Thomas Maggos,Stergios Vratolis,Roy M. Harrison,Roy M. Harrison,Xavier Querol +24 more
TL;DR: The AIRUSE-LIFE+ project aims at characterizing similarities and heterogeneities in particulate matter (PM) sources and contributions in urban areas from southern Europe as mentioned in this paper, where the main PMx sources are identified and tested the efficiency of specific and non-specific measures to improve urban air quality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Soot Reference Materials for instrument calibration and intercomparisons: a workshop summary with recommendations
Darrel Baumgardner,Olga Popovicheva,James Allan,V. Bernardoni,Junji Cao,Fabrizia Cavalli,J. Cozic,Evangelia Diapouli,Konstantinos Eleftheriadis,P. J. Genberg,C. Gonzalez,Martin Gysel,A. John,Thomas W. Kirchstetter,Thomas A. J. Kuhlbusch,M. Laborde,Daniel A. Lack,Daniel A. Lack,Thomas Müller,Reinhard Niessner,Andreas Petzold,Andrea Piazzalunga,J. P. Putaud,Joshua P. Schwarz,Joshua P. Schwarz,Patrick J. Sheridan,R. Subramanian,Erik Swietlicki,Gianluigi Valli,Roberta Vecchi,Mar Viana +30 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the current state of availability and practicability of soot standard reference materials (SRMs) was reviewed by a group of 50 international experts during a workshop in June 2011.
Journal ArticleDOI
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives (nitro-PAHs, oxygenated PAHs, and azaarenes) in PM 2.5 from Southern European cities
Célia Alves,Ana Vicente,Danilo Custódio,Mário Cerqueira,Teresa Nunes,Casimiro Pio,Franco Lucarelli,Giulia Calzolai,Silvia Nava,Evangelia Diapouli,Konstantinos Eleftheriadis,Xavier Querol,Benjamin A. Musa Bandowe +12 more
TL;DR: Molecular diagnostic ratios suggested that, after traffic, biomass burning was the dominant emission source, and the marked differences between winter and summer may indicate that these diagnostic ratios are particularly sensitive to photodegradation, and thus should be applied and interpreted cautiously.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of PM2.5 sources and their corresponding level of uncertainty in a coastal urban area using EPA PMF 5.0 enhanced diagnostics.
M. Manousakas,H. Papaefthymiou,Evangelia Diapouli,Alessandro Migliori,Andreas Germanos Karydas,Ivančica Bogdanović-Radović,Konstantinos Eleftheriadis +6 more
TL;DR: This work is demonstrating how a source apportionment study utilizing PMF 5.0 enhanced diagnostic tools can achieve an improved solution with documented levels of uncertainty for a dataset that includes only the PM elemental composition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Indoor and outdoor PM mass and number concentrations at schools in the Athens area.
TL;DR: The results of the statistical analysis of indoor and outdoor concentration data support the use of SO^{{ - 2}}_{4} $$ as a proper surrogate for indoor PM of outdoor origin.
