TL;DR: In persons with CD4+ T-cell counts of less than 50 per cubic millimeter, earlier ART was associated with a lower rate of new AIDS-defining illnesses and death, as compared with later ART.
Journal ArticleDOI

Peel,Peter Dawson,Jerome H. Kim,Nelson L. Michael +28 more
TL;DR: Few symptoms and signs were observed during acute HIV-1 infection, and they were most common before peak viremia, which was nearly equivalent to the viral-load set point.
Journal ArticleDOI

Shahin Lockman,Michael Hughes,James McIntyre,Yu Zheng,Tsungai Chipato,Francesca Conradie,Fred Sawe,Aida Asmelash,Mina C. Hosseinipour,Lerato Mohapi,Elizabeth M. TL;DR: In women with prior exposure to peripartum single-dose nevirapine (but not in those without prior exposure), ritonavir-boosted lopinavir plus tenofovir–emtricitabine was superior to ne virapine plus ten ofovir-emticitabines for initial antiretroviral therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Phase 1/2 Study of a Multiclade HIV-1 DNA Plasmid Prime and Recombinant Adenovirus Serotype 5 Boost Vaccine in HIV-Uninfected East Africans (RV 172)

Michael,Mark de Souza,Merlin L. Robb +23 more
TL;DR: The DNA/rAd5 vaccination regimen was safe and induced HIV type 1 multi-clade T cell responses, which were not significantly affected by titers of preexisting rAd5 neutralizing antibody.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pregnancy outcomes among HIV-infected women who conceived on antiretroviral therapy.
Elizabeth M. Stringer,Michelle A. Kendall,Shahin Lockman,Thomas B. Campbell,Karin Nielsen-Saines,Fred Sawe,Susan Cu-Uvin,Xingye Wu,Judith S. Currier +8 more
TL;DR: Despite the benefits of ART, studies designed to investigate the effects of preconception ART on pregnancy outcomes are needed because women conceiving on ART had high rates of preterm birth and other adverse pregnancy outcomes.
