A High-Resolution Enhancer Atlas of the Developing Telencephalon
Axel Visel,Axel Visel,Leila Taher,Hani Z. Girgis,Dalit May,Olga Golonzhka,Renée V. Hoch,Gabriel L. McKinsey,Kartik Pattabiraman,Shanni N. Silberberg,Matthew J. Blow,David V. Hansen,Alexander Nord,Jennifer A. Akiyama,Amy Holt,Roya Hosseini,Sengthavy Phouanenavong,Ingrid Plajzer-Frick,Malak Shoukry,Veena Afzal,Tommy Kaplan,Tommy Kaplan,Arnold R. Kriegstein,Edward M. Rubin,Edward M. Rubin,Ivan Ovcharenko,Len A. Pennacchio,Len A. Pennacchio,John L.R. Rubenstein +28 more
TL;DR: A digital atlas of in vivo enhancers active in subregions of the developing telencephalon, identifying more than 4,600 candidate embryonic forebrain enhancers and studying the in vivo activity of 329 of these sequences in transgenic mouse embryos is described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Many human accelerated regions are developmental enhancers
John A. Capra,Genevieve D. Erwin,Gabriel L. McKinsey,John L.R. Rubenstein,Katherine S. Pollard +4 more
TL;DR: The changes to human non-coding DNA in these ncHAR enhancers may modify the complex patterns of gene expression necessary for proper development in a human- specific manner and are thus promising candidates for understanding the genetic basis of human-specific biology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fezf2 expression identifies a multipotent progenitor for neocortical projection neurons, astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes.
Chao Guo,Matthew J. Eckler,William L. McKenna,Gabriel L. McKinsey,John L.R. Rubenstein,Bin Chen +5 more
TL;DR: In vivo genetic fate mapping is utilized to demonstrate that Fezf2-expressing radial glial cells (RGCs) exist throughout cortical development and sequentially generate all major projection neuron subtypes and glia and suggest that the existence, and molecular identity, of laminar-fate-restricted RGCs awaits further investigation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dlx1&2-dependent expression of Zfhx1b (Sip1, Zeb2) regulates the fate switch between cortical and striatal interneurons
Gabriel L. McKinsey,Susan Lindtner,Brett Trzcinski,Axel Visel,Axel Visel,Len A. Pennacchio,Len A. Pennacchio,Danny Huylebroeck,Yujiro Higashi,John L.R. Rubenstein +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the Zfhx1b (Sip1, Zeb2) zinc finger homeobox gene is required in the MGE, directly downstream of Dlx1&2, to generate cortical interneurons that express Cxcr7, MafB, and cMaf.
Journal ArticleDOI
Generation of Cre-transgenic mice using Dlx1/Dlx2 enhancers and their characterization in GABAergic interneurons
Gregory B. Potter,Magdalena A. Petryniak,Eugenia Shevchenko,Gabriel L. McKinsey,Marc Ekker,John L.R. Rubenstein +5 more
TL;DR: It is shown that Cre-recombinase is active in a "Dlx-pattern" in the embryonic forebrain of transgenic mice and provided the first in vivo evidence that both I12b and URE2 are direct targets of DLX2 and require Dlx1 and DlX2 expression for proper activity.
