Review of techniques useful for the assessment of sensory small fiber neuropathies: Report from an IFCN expert group
Renato J. Verdugo,José Manuel Matamala,Koji Inui,Ryusuke Kakigi,Josep Valls-Solé,Per Hansson,Kristian Bernhard Nilsen,Raffaella Lombardi,Giuseppe Lauria,Ioannis N. Petropoulos,Rayaz A. Malik,Rolf-Detlef Treede,Ulf Baumgärtner,P. Jara,Mario Campero +14 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors present a review of the available techniques available for the study of small afferent fibers and their clinical applicability, and a summary of the anatomy and important physiological aspects of these pathways, and the clinical manifestations of their dysfunction is also included.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of MRC Centre MRI calf muscle fat fraction protocol as a sensitive outcome measure in Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy Type 1
U Kugathasan,Matthew R B Evans,Jasper M. Morrow,Christopher D. J. Sinclair,John S. Thornton,Tarek A. Yousry,Thorsten Hornemann,Saranya Suriyanarayanan,Khadijah Owusu-Ansah,Giuseppe Lauria,Raffaella Lombardi,James M. Polke,Emma R. Wilson,David L.H. Bennett,Henry Houlden,Michael G. Hanna,Julian Blake,Matilde Laura,Mary M. Reilly +18 more
TL;DR: MRI determined calf muscle fat fraction shows validity and high responsiveness over 12 months and will be useful in HSN1 clinical trials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Continuous Buprenorphine Delivery Effect in Streptozotocine-Induced Painful Diabetic Neuropathy in Rats
Annalisa Canta,Alessia Chiorazzi,Cristina Meregalli,Valentina Alda Carozzi,Norberto Oggioni,Giuseppe Lauria,Raffaella Lombardi,Roberto Bianchi,Carla Porretta-Serapiglia,Guido Cavaletti +9 more
TL;DR: A possible role for buprenorphine in the management of DPN-associated neuropathic pain is suggested, through a multimodal approach, in an experimental rat model of painful DPN.
Journal ArticleDOI
Foot Pad Skin Biopsy in Mouse Models of Hereditary Neuropathy
Patrizia Dacci,Giorgia Dina,Federica Cerri,Stefano C. Previtali,Ignazio Diego Lopez,Giuseppe Lauria,Maria Laura Feltri,Alessandra Bolino,Giancarlo Comi,Lawrence Wrabetz,Angelo Quattrini +10 more
TL;DR: Data indicate that SB may reveal distal axonal pathology in mouse models and permits sequential follow‐up of the neuropathy in an individual mouse, thereby reducing the number of mice necessary to document pathology of the peripheral nervous system (PNS).
Journal ArticleDOI
Ischemic stroke as clinical onset of POEMS syndrome
TL;DR: This work describes the unique case of two patients in whom stroke was the presenting feature of POEMS syndrome, and indicates that an autologous stem cell transplant had successfully reduced neuropathy symptoms.
