Journal ArticleDOI
Neuropilin-1 facilitates SARS-CoV-2 cell entry and infectivity.
Ludovico Cantuti-Castelvetri,Ludovico Cantuti-Castelvetri,Ravi Ojha,Liliana D. Pedro,Liliana D. Pedro,Minou Djannatian,Minou Djannatian,Jonas Franz,Suvi Kuivanen,Franziska van der Meer,Katri Kallio,Tuğberk Kaya,Tuğberk Kaya,Tuğberk Kaya,Maria Anastasina,Maria Anastasina,Teemu Smura,Lev Levanov,Leonora Szirovicza,Allan Tobi,Hannimari Kallio-Kokko,Pamela Österlund,Merja Joensuu,Frederic A. TL;DR: It is found that neuropilin-1 (NRP1), known to bind furin-cleaved substrates, significantly potentiates SARS-CoV-2 infectivity, an effect blocked by a monoclonal blocking antibody against NRP1.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serological and molecular findings during SARS-CoV-2 infection: the first case study in Finland, January to February 2020.
Anu Haveri,Teemu Smura,Suvi Kuivanen,Pamela Österlund,Jussi Hepojoki,Jussi Hepojoki,Niina Ikonen,Marjaana Pitkapaasi,Soile Blomqvist,Esa Rönkkö,Anu Kantele,Tomas Strandin,Hannimari Kallio-Kokko,Laura Mannonen,Maija Lappalainen,Markku Broas,Miao Jiang,Miao Jiang,Lotta Siira,Mika Salminen,Taneli Puumalainen,Jussi Sane,Merit Melin,Olli Vapalahti,Carita Savolainen-Kopra +24 more
TL;DR: The clinical picture and laboratory findings 3–23 days since the first symptoms are described, and neutralising antibody response appeared within 9 days along with specific IgM and IgG response, targeting particularly nucleocapsid and spike proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tula virus: a newly detected hantavirus carried by European common voles.
Alexander Plyusnin,Olli Vapalahti,Hilkka Lankinen,Heikki Lehväslaiho,N. Apekina,Yuri Myasnikov,Hannimari Kallio-Kokko,Heikki Henttonen,Åke Lundkvist,M. Brummer-Korvenkontio +9 more
TL;DR: The results support the view that the evolution of hantaviruses follows that of their primary carriers and that the Tula virus population from individual animals is represented by quasispecies, indicating the potential for rapid evolution of the agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
Performance of six SARS-CoV-2 immunoassays in comparison with microneutralisation.
Anne J. Jääskeläinen,Suvi Kuivanen,Eliisa Kekäläinen,Maarit J Ahava,Raisa Loginov,Hannimari Kallio-Kokko,Olli Vapalahti,Hanna Jarva,Satu Kurkela,Maija Lappalainen +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the performance of six commercial immunoassays for the detection of SARS-COV-2 IgG, IgA and IgM antibodies.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human B‐cell epitopes of puumala virus nucleocapsid protein, the major antigen in early serological response
Olli Vapalahti,Hannimari Kallio-Kokko,Ale Närvänen,Ilkka Julkunen,Åke Lundkvist,Alexander Plyusnin,Heikki Lehväslaiho,M. Brummer-Korvenkontio,Antti Vaheri,Hilkka Lankinen +9 more
TL;DR: It is confirmed that the nucleocapsid protein is the major target in the early IgG response of NE patients and provides the molecular basis for simple and rapid differentiation between acute illness and old immunity by granular vs. diffuse fluorescence staining in the indirect immunofluorescence test.
