Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative health impact assessment of local and regional particulate air pollutants in Scandinavia.
Bertil Forsberg,Hans-Christen Hansson,Christer Johansson,Hans Areskoug,Karin Persson,Bengt Järvholm +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors made a review of the latest findings on air pollutants and health to facilitate assessments of the different air pollutants, and their health effects, and found that exposure to particulate matter (PM), despite the lower levels we face today, still poses a significant risk to human health.
Journal ArticleDOI
A European aerosol phenomenology-5 : Climatology of black carbon optical properties at 9 regional background sites across Europe
Marco Zanatta,Martin Gysel,Nicolas Bukowiecki,Thomas Müller,Ernest Weingartner,Hans Areskoug,Markus Fiebig,Karl Espen Yttri,Nikos Mihalopoulos,Giorgos Kouvarakis,David C. S. Beddows,Roy M. Harrison,Fabrizia Cavalli,J. P. Putaud,Gerald Spindler,Alfred Wiedensohler,Andrés Alastuey,Marco Pandolfi,Karine Sellegri,Erik Swietlicki,Jean-Luc Jaffrezo,Urs Baltensperger,Paolo Laj +22 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the spatio-temporal variability of the mass absorption cross-section (MAC) of atmospheric black carbon, defined as light absorption coefficient (σap) divided by elemental carbon mass concentration (mEC).
Journal ArticleDOI
On the Spatial Distribution and Seasonal Variation of Lower-Troposphere Ozone over Europe
H. E. Scheel,Hans Areskoug,H. Geiss,Boštjan Gomišček,Kit Granby,László Haszpra,Leo Klasinc,Dieter Kley,Tuomas Laurila,Anne Lindskog,M. Roemer,R. Schmitt,Peter Simmonds,Sverre Solberg,G. Toupance +14 more
TL;DR: In this article, surface ozone data from 25 Europeanlow-altitude sites and mountain sites located between 79°N and 28°N were studied for the time period March 1989-February 1993.
Journal ArticleDOI
Geochemistry of PM10 over Europe during the EMEP intensive measurement periods in summer 2012 and winter 2013
Andrés Alastuey,Xavier Querol,Wenche Aas,Franco Lucarelli,Noemí Pérez,Teresa Moreno,Fabrizia Cavalli,Hans Areskoug,Violeta Balan,Maria Catrambone,Darius Ceburnis,José Carlos Cerro,Sébastien Conil,Lusine Gevorgyan,Christoph Hueglin,Kornélia Imre,Jean Luc Jaffrezo,Sarah Leeson,Nikolaos Mihalopoulos,Marta Mitosinkova,Colin D. O'Dowd,Jorge Pey,Jean Philippe Putaud,Véronique Riffault,Anna Ripoll,Jean Sciare,Karine Sellegri,Gerald Spindler,Karl Espen Yttri +28 more
TL;DR: The third intensive measurement period (IMP) under the UNECE CLTRAP took place in summer 2012 and winter 2013, with PM10 filter samples concurrently collected at 20 (16 EMEP) regional background sites across Europe for subsequent analysis of their mineral dust content as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Field intercomparison of measurement techniques for total NH4+ and total NO3− in ambient air
TL;DR: In this paper, three techniques to measure the total (gaseous and particulate) concentrations of NH4+ and NO3− were compared in field experiments, and the same relative standard deviations were obtained when different sampling techniques (denuder, total filter, filter pack) were compared.
