High levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone are associated with aortic wall thickness in the general population
Till Ittermann,Roberto Lorbeer,Marcus Dörr,Tobias Schneider,Alexander Quadrat,Lydia Heßelbarth,Michael Wenzel,Ina Lehmphul,Josef Köhrle,Birger Mensel,Henry Völzke +10 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that AWT values increase with increasing serum TSH concentrations, indicating that a hypothyroid state may be indicative for aortic atherosclerosis, and these results fit very well to the findings of previous studies pointing towards increased atherosclerotic risk in the hypothy thyroid state.
Journal ArticleDOI
High (but Not Low) Urinary Iodine Excretion Is Predicted by Iodine Excretion Levels from Five Years Ago
Till Ittermann,Anke Nautsch,Carsten Oliver Schmidt,Axel Kramer,Harald Below,Thomas Remer,Roland Gärtner,Henri Wallaschofski,Henry Völzke +8 more
TL;DR: Investigation of the relation between iodine-creatinine ratio (ICR) at two measuring points 5 years apart detected only a weak correlation with respect to low ICR, and studies assessing iodine status in a population should take into account that an individual with a low UI excretion in one measurement is not necessarily permanently iodine deficient.
Journal ArticleDOI
Associations between Serum Sex Hormone Concentrations and Whole Blood Gene Expression Profiles in the General Population
Robin Haring,Claudia Schurmann,Georg Homuth,Leif Steil,Uwe Völker,Henry Völzke,Brian G. Keevil,Matthias Nauck,Henri Wallaschofski +8 more
TL;DR: The present study did not indicate any association between sex hormone concentrations and whole blood gene expression profiles in men and women from the general population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Shame, self-identification with having a mental illness, and willingness to seek help in northeast Germany.
Lara N. Schulze,Johanna Klinger-König,Susanne Stolzenburg,J. Wiese,Sven Speerforck,S. Van der Auwera-Palitschka,Henry Völzke,Hans-Jörgen Grabe,Georg Schomerus +8 more
TL;DR: The results corroborate the important role of shame as an impediment to help-seeking for mental health problems in the general population and show shame being a full mediator of a negative association between social distance and willingness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prediction of improvement in quality of life (QoL-AGHDA) in adults with growth hormone deficiency by normative reference limits: Data of the German KIMS cohort
Joern Moock,Nele Friedrich,Henry Völzke,Christin Spielhagen,Matthias Nauck,Maria Koltowska-Häggström,Michael Buchfelder,Henri Wallaschofski,Thomas Kohlmann +8 more
TL;DR: A QoL-AGHDA cut-off value for prediction of improvement was investigated for the German population, which may facilitate clinical assessment of HRQoL response to GH replacement for patients with GHD.
