Genome-wide associations of aortic distensibility suggest causality for aortic aneurysms and brain white matter hyperintensities
Catherine Francis,Matthias E. Futschik,Jian-Jian Huang,Wenjia Bai,Muralidharan Sargurupremraj,Alexander Teumer,Monique M.B. Breteler,Enrico Petretto,Amanda S R Ho,Philippe Amouyel,Stefan T. Engelter,Robin Bülow,Uwe Völker,Henry Völzke,Marcus Dörr,Mohammed Aslam Imtiaz,N. Ahmad Aziz,Valerie Lohner,James S. Ware,Stéphanie Debette,Paul Elliott,Abbas Dehghan,Paul M. Matthews +22 more
TL;DR: In this article , the authors identify 102 loci (including 27 novel associations) tagging genes related to cardiovascular development, extracellular matrix production, smooth muscle cell contraction and heritable aortic diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Image analysis in epidemiological applications
Klaus D. Toennies,Oliver Gloger,Marko Rak,Charlotte Winkler,Paul Klemm,Bernhard Preim,Henry Völzke +6 more
TL;DR: A rising number of epidemiological studies apply imaging technologies results in unique requirements regarding the development of methods to efficiently integrate varying domain knowledge into the process without compromising comparability of results across subjects or time.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of sex-specific differences in lipoprotein(a) concentrations with cardiovascular mortality in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Marcello Ricardo Paulista Markus,Till Ittermann,Sabine Schipf,Martin Bahls,Matthias Nauck,Henry Völzke,Raul D. Santos,Annette Peters,Tanja Zeller,Stephan B. Felix,Ramachandran S. Vasan,Barbara Thorand,Elisabeth Steinhagen-Thiessen,Marcus Dörr +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed the longitudinal associations of lipoprotein(a) with cardiovascular mortality in individuals with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus using Cox regression and found that women had a significantly higher risk for cardiovascular mortality compared to men in unadjusted model and after adjustment.
Book ChapterDOI
Mining Longitudinal Epidemiological Data to Understand a Reversible Disorder
TL;DR: It is shown that predictive quality improves when considering old recordings, and that factors that contribute inadequately to class separation become more predictive when the authors exploit historical recordings of them.
Journal ArticleDOI
Does response bias influence population studies of thyroid disorders
Henry Völzke,Robin Haring,Carsten Oliver Schmidt,Dietrich Alte,Axel Kramer,Wolfgang Hoffmann,Ulrich John,Henri Wallaschofski +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that selection bias likely influences prevalence data for some studies of thyroid epidemiology and could be diminished by making invitation procedures more rigorous.
