Journal ArticleDOI
Recent progress in R&D on tungsten alloys for divertor structural and plasma facing materials
Stefan Wurster,Nadine Baluc,Manjusha Battabyal,Tamer Crosby,J. Du,Carmen García-Rosales,Akira Hasegawa,Anna Rebecca Hoffmann,Akihiko Kimura,Hiroaki Kurishita,Richard J. Kurtz,Huijun Li,Huijun Li,S. Noh,J. Reiser,Johann Riesch,Michael Rieth,Wahyu Setyawan,Mario Walter,Jeong-Ha You,Reinhard Pippan +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the fracture behavior is improved by using tungsten laminated materials and wire reinforced materials, which can achieve self-passivation, which is essential in case of loss-of-coolant accidents for plasma facing materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of advanced high heat flux and plasma-facing materials
Ch. Linsmeier,Michael Rieth,Jarir Aktaa,Takumi Chikada,Anna Rebecca Hoffmann,Jan Hoffmann,A. Houben,Hiroaki Kurishita,Xue Zhou Jin,M. Li,Andrey Litnovsky,S. Matsuo,A. von Müller,Vladica Nikolić,T. Palacios,Reinhard Pippan,D. Qu,J. Reiser,Johann Riesch,T. Shikama,Robert Stieglitz,T. Weber,T. Weber,Stefan Wurster,Jeong-Ha You,Zhangjian Zhou +25 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the requirements and needs for new, advanced materials for the fusion-facing components of a tokamak/or stellarator reactor, including fiber-reinforced and laminated structures, and mechanically alloyed tungsten materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observations of suppressed retention and blistering for tungsten exposed to deuterium–helium mixture plasmas
Mitsutaka Miyamoto,Daisuke Nishijima,Yoshio Ueda,R.P. Doerner,Hiroaki Kurishita,M.J. Baldwin,S. Morito,Kotaro Ono,J. Hanna +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the amount of D retained in W was found to decrease significantly when compared with that in W exposed to pure D plasmas, as measured with high resolution thermal desorption spectroscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of ultra-fine grained W–TiC and their mechanical properties for fusion applications
Hiroaki Kurishita,Y. Amano,Sengo Kobayashi,Kiyomichi Nakai,H. Arakawa,Yutaka Hiraoka,T. Takida,K. Takebe,Hideki Matsui +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the effects of neutron irradiation on microstructural evolution and radiation hardening were examined for fine-grained W-0.3%TiC and commercially available pure W-20μm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of ultra-fine grained W–(0.25–0.8)wt%TiC and its superior resistance to neutron and 3 MeV He-ion irradiations
Hiroaki Kurishita,Sengo Kobayashi,Kiyomichi Nakai,T. Ogawa,Akira Hasegawa,K. Abe,H. Arakawa,S. Matsuo,T. Takida,K. Takebe,Masayoshi Kawai,N. Yoshida +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used mechanical alloying (MA) in different gas atmospheres of H 2, Ar and N 2 and hot isostatic pressing to construct W-TiC with equiaxed grain sizes of 50-200nm and nearly full density of 99%.
