TL;DR: The results support the feasibility of discovery-based approaches using next-generation sequencing technologies to identify signaling pathways for targeting in the development of personalized therapies for patients with pulmonary fibrosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Monocyte-derived alveolar macrophages drive lung fibrosis and persist in the lung over the life span.

Scott Budinger,Harris Perlman +42 more
TL;DR: Using transcriptomic profiling of flow-sorted cells, it is found that monocyte to alveolar macrophage differentiation unfolds continuously over the course of fibrosis and its resolution, and suggests that selectively targeting alveolars macrophages differentiation within the lung may ameliorate fibrosis without the adverse consequences associated with global monocyte or tissue-resident alve Polar Macrophage depletion.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated SARS-CoV-2 pathobiology by characterizing the immune response in the alveoli of patients infected with the virus, and they collected bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples from 88 patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV2)induced respiratory failure and 211 patients with known or suspected pneumonia from other pathogens, and analyzed them using flow cytometry and bulk transcriptomic profiling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Muramyl peptides. Variation of somnogenic activity with structure.
James M. Krueger,James M. Walter,Manfred L. Karnovsky,Louis Chedid,Jean Choay,Pierre Lefrancier,Edgar Lederer +6 more
TL;DR: It is shown that some analogs of MDP possess immunostimulatory and pyrogenic activity but not somnogenic activity, thus suggesting that these biological activities of muramyl peptides may, in part, be mediated by separate mechanisms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Feasibility of Venovenous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Without Systemic Anticoagulation.
Chitaru Kurihara,James M. Walter,Azad S. Karim,Sanket Thakkar,Mark Saine,David D. Odell,Samuel Kim,Rade Tomic,Richard G. Wunderink,G. R. Scott Budinger,Ankit Bharat +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that VV-ECMO can be safely administered without continuous systemic anticoagulation for patients with ARDS, and may be associated with reduced bleeding diathesis and need for blood transfusions.
